Visiting LA in about month. Wondering if there any restaurants with a good tap selection near Amoeba or Headline Records. Somewhere that might have something like Sculpin or some Bruery taps.

As for food, nothing really fancy. A place with good tacos, burgers, or pizza would be fine.

Preferably no further than 5 miles away Amoeba or Headline.
    Thanks for the suggestion!

Surly Goat... no food served, but can take inside. Recommend a sammie from Mendocino Farms.

Was just thinking that The Surly Goat is convenient for Headline. But I don't think they open until 6 on weeknights (1:00 on weekends). Good taps. (Sometimes great.)

Thanks for all the great suggestions, guys. I'll probably hit up Surly Goat after Headline (with my stack of newly purchased KBD comps in tow) before heading to Amoeba and then going through my purchases at Blue Palms. Nothing like an IPA and record store purchases.

There's also Beer Belly in K-town. It's 3.5 miles from Amoeba and they have a more interesting menu, IMO. The tap list right now is very LA-centric with the exception of Logsdon Seizoen Bretta and Bruery Humulus Lager.

Cat and the Fiddle--it's not a great beer bar but it's a great LA bar about two blocks west of Amoeba. Sit outside.

Just compare the tap and food menus and decide what's most interesting to you. I forgot to mention Mohawk Bend in Silverlake/Echo Park. Huge tap list and decent food. I'd probably go to either of those over BP at the moment.

It sounds like it's just going to come down to what is on tap at what place when I'm around. Either way I'll have plenty to chose from! The only thing that would change this would be whichever place has the Lost Abbey rarities on the bottle list.

The bottle list at BP is pretty good from what I remember and it'll be the closest to Amoeba. I'm just not particularly too keen on that area so I avoid it when possible.

I'm not too sure what kind of records you're looking for, but there are about 3 or 4 record stores around Mohawk Bend. Just a couple minutes east is Sunset Beer Co where you can buy bottles as well as partake in whatever's on draft. If you're into coffee at all, a few minutes west on Sunset is Intelligentsia (which you'll pass on your way to Mohawk Bend if you're coming from Amoeba).

If you don't mind me asking, what's up with that area? Anything I should worry about?

Mostly punk type stuff. Specifically hoping to find Back from Samoa by the Angry Samoans, the book Flex: Discography of US punk and hardcore, and some kind of collection of GG Allin's stuff on Orange Records.
I've enjoyed Intelligentsia's coffee. Plus it's in two beers I've enjoyed, BCBCS and Darklord. Definitely stopping by there.

Are you asking about Hollywood? If so, there's just not much that I like there other than Amoeba (and Blue Palms before their temporary Hiatus last year) I guess. There's nothing you should worry about, from a safety standpoint, other than the norm.

If you go to Intelligentsia, stop by the Cheese Store next door. You can ask for samples of anything you're interested in before you buy. You'll be able to pick up something nice to pair with the beers you're getting.
