Good Rum Barrel Aged beers?

Evolution Craft Brewery's Spring Migration is a Rum Barrel-aged Belgian Golden Ale. The base beer is about 9.5% abv and ages for something like 6 - 8 months in the barrel and then bottle conditioned.

 

Isn't Baladin Xyauyu Barrel around $50/bottle?

Baladin is on the shelf at Binny's. $40+ though. Ouch!

 

Most Binnys should still have them on their shelves, they have been sitting there for a couple weeks now. I think the price tag scares most non-BAs away.

 

I liked the Kill Devil Brown by Widmer, as well. It's the only rum barrel aged brew that's available to me.. that I know of. As Scotchboy noted, the rum barrel aspect was mild, but still pleasant and noticeable.

Revolution's 3rd Year beer was a solid rum barrel aged wheat barleywine

 

I wasn't too big of a fan of this one.

 

Jackie O's and Peg's you won't find on the shelves here, obviously. I got my Xyauyu Barrel from the Lincoln Park Binny's (Vav's place) - it's probably still there considering the price. 3rd Year Beer should still be there, too, so I would make a trip there.

 

I don't think they make it anymore, but Rogue's John John Hazelnut Rum-Barrel Brown Ale was probably the best rum-treated beer I have ever had.

 

Probably more. I saw it at a bar in DC for $100. I've seen Xyauyu copper and silver label both selling for more than $60 a bottle, but that was here in Philly, so Xyauyu may be considerably cheaper elsewhere.

FWIW, it was 23 Euro at a beer shop in Rome. Which was the same price as they were selling both 3F Golden Blend and bourbon-barrel Angel's Share. And the shop owner apologized to me for how expensive the beers were.

 

Pretty sure it's around $45 in Chicago.

 

AleSmith RumSkull. I heard they were accidentally shipped a rum barrel in their order of bourbon barrels and threw Old Numbskull into it as an experiment. It was fantastic, and better than bourbon Old Numbskull in my opinion.
