Sorry don’t know what that is, I just remember rows of open wooden barrels with a guy ladling in fish juice.

I’d like a Bluebird Bitter right now, or a Bateman’s XXXB.

    Used for clarity...insinglass. Fish bladder.

Ah ok, I remember at the time being amazed they’re putting fishy shit in great beer.

I suggest trying everything you can get your hands on from Samuel Smith. That will cover a variety of styles. You can move on to some hoppier types later.

Not necessarily top-rated, these will all be affordable, flavorful, drinkable, and a nice step up from the typical AAL.

    Smithwick's
    Boulevard (Original Wheat)
    Yuengling Traditional Lager
    Alaskan Amber
    Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier
    Scrimshaw Pilsner (North Coast)
    Blue Moon
    Mirror Pond Pale Ale (Deschutes)

Simple oversight, obviously. I mean, the truth is I could have mentioned basically everything in their portfolio.

I've seen a few mentions of Weihenstephaner's Heffeweissbier which is obviously a fantastic beer, but no mention of their Original Helles (sometimes labeled Original Premium) which may be an easier transition beer for someone used to lighter lagers and is just as delicious as their hefeweizen in my opinion.

You could pick pretty much any beer from their lineup and it will be a world class example of the style so you really can't go wrong. Might just want to watch out for freshness if you can.

Just figured I would double check here.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is worth a try, although it may be too bitter for someone used to AALs.

Like Sam Adams, it's available almost everywhere.

Weihenstephaner Original or the Helles in cans that came out in 2020. Both excellent.
Great Lakes Dort. A Dortmunder lager.
    Paulaner Munich Lager.
Metropolitan Brewing out of Chicago if you can get it makes good lagers. Krankshaft (Kolsch) or Flywheel (Pilsner) are 2 of my favorites.

Magic Hat #9 is a good gateway and should be easy to find, especially in your area. And someone else already said it, but Fat Tire was another one that immediately came to mind.

And living in PA, have to agree with Yuengling.
