Want to stop somewhere on our way from Ohio to Hilton Head. We prefer to stop within 4 hours of the island and not far out of the way. Any suggestions?

Some folks will be along to tell you about some shops closer to Charlotte. I'm just not as familiar with them as I don't make it that far south typically. Davidson Beverage Company in Davidson and Ultimate Ales in Mooresville are both good shops. There are several breweries in the NoDa area of Charlotte that are not too far off 77. You looking for breweries, shops or both?

Sorry, mainly breweries or beer bars with a hotel close by. We are stopping for the night.

Hope it's ok to toot my own horn... just opened a craft beer restaurant in Statesville about 1.5 miles from I-77... Twisted Oak American Bar & Grill. Closed now, but open 11-10 through the week and 11-11(ish) on Fri and Sat.

Alright, think I've finally figured out the quote function...

Saw you post on a different thread recently. I'm in Mooresville but would love to come check our your place soon.

If breweries are the plan, especially if overnight, I would plan to stop in the NoDa area. Its really not too far off 77and it has the greatest concentration of breweries you'll find. There are also great shops in the area. The only word of caution I could provide is that, depending on the day of travel, several do not open until later in the day. Just make sure you make your travel plans accordingly.

That looks like a perfect stop with hotels close by. Will definitely make that our number one option

Charlotte is 4 hours from Hilton Head so Statesville would be 4.5 hours at a minimum from HHI.

I would recommend a hotel around Exit 5,6 (Tyvola or Woodlawn). Make your evening this: Beer shopping at Brawleys, dinner at Good Food On Montford (my favorite resturant, decent beer selection), and nightcap beers at Duckworths. They are all within a 1/4m of each other. If you have time before hand, Olde Meck and Triiple C are a few miles north.

Woodlawn Exit (6) would be closer but the hotels aren't that nice (embassy suites aint bad). Tyvola Rd exit has better hotels, much nicer if you move a few mile east on Tyvola to the SouthPark area.

Noda and Birdsong are my favorite breweries but sadly they are not near any nice hotels unless you want to pay downtown hotel prices.

How long you visiting the island and when? I'm guessing this is a spring break?

Let me know if I can be of any assistance with recommendations for either food or libations on the island. I have lived on HHI since 1999.

If you're looking for a beer/bottle shop, Greens on Piney Grove in Columbia is a nice spot. You'd take 77 to 20 towards Aiken, then hop off on 26 to piney grove. It's not terribly out of the way for you, probably 15 minutes. Get right back on 26 to 95 from there.

77 all the way? Foothills in Winston-Salem, NoDa/Birdsong in Charlotte, maybe even some other CLT breweries.

Grapevine is right off of 77 at exit 85 in fort mill, sc like literally a minute from the exit. Great beers on tap and great hospitality.
