Out of the loop nowadays for what are the top notch stouts out there that I might be able to land

My tasting group's Stout Night is coming up in December so looking to land a few new bottles and don't know what to trade for. I live in Mid Hudson Valley, New York and we don't get great stouts around here so much. Have plenty of ammo (I think) just not sure what to aim for.

Not looking for the "impossibles" so much as the "top quality but still possibles". Any recommendations?

Coconut especially. Also really impressed with the 18 batches of Kentuckley, Canuckley and the whole set from transient this year too!

You guys in the middle of the country are blessed with great stouts. Don't know why that is, but it's been true for a long time

The Medianoches are going to be tough to trade for most likely...

If you are looking for a great stout that is easy to land, try Community's Barrel-Aged Legion, being released next in the next two weeks in Dallas. While a couple of the past variations have been hit or miss, this year's is back to being aged in bourbon barrels, which should fantastic. Best of all, it will be fairly easy to find for people, albeit for a short time.

If you’re into pastry stouts, Angry Chair should definitely on your list.

It looks like you haven’t had Abraxas yet. If not, I would strongly suggest that one. It is one of my favorite non ba stouts. Also, Mexican Cake and Dark Lord would be on my list as well if you haven’t had them either yet.....

Thanks for the recommendations! Yeah, we have had both reg. and BA versions of Abraxas,in the past, DL and variants a couple times, great beers, we get Mexican Cake distro here, that one's always in the mix. Folks have brought variants in the past too.
I am out of the loop for trade value for a while now. From the little I think I know Angry Chair stouts trade really high? This is true? Your opinion is they're worth the cost?

Dave, one of the best stouts I’ve had this year, was this year’s HF’s Genealogy of Morals. For me it outshined many of the more limited stouts and those with loaded adjuncts. If you haven’t had it, I think you should seek it out and it shouldn’t be too difficult to acquire.

I'd seek out a bottle of FOb4. Trading relatively lower than past batches, and it's a pretty damn good bba vanilla stout.

Not exactly when this years comes out, but Surly Darkness is quite good, and fairly easy to get here in Minnesota.

Nice, have added more to list, thank you all. Now to start figuring out what I have to offer for them.

Keep em coming the more possibilities the better my chances for a few gems!

From the stuff I have tried this year, the best stout was Canuckly. Also really like Jam the Radar and Ground state from BL.

Also recently had an FO b3 and it was amazing. Little harder to trade for than the b4, but definitely worth it.

Moksa stouts have been really good as well, with my favorite being Grasp of Darkness.

Some trade pretty high and some are a bit easier. The Non-BA stuff isn’t too hard to get. You should be able to get AC Bottles for Hudson Valley/EQ/Other Half cans. I’d say it’s definitely worth trading for if you like that style of stout. One of my buddies actually trades a bunch of his AC stuff for Hudson valley cans actually.

Seconding FO, they made a lot more this year so the trade value isn’t as high but the quality is still great.

Great idea for a thread. I'm excited to follow this one.

The latest Appervation is pretty easily obtainable. And I haven't had anything from Kane, but their stouts are supposed to be excellent and their trade value isn't super high.

Kane A Night To End All Dawns was already on my list. I have actually tried to get that and variants for a few years unsuccessfully. Read some reviews for Appervation and that sounds great! Now on list.

Trillium's stouts are usually pretty solid if you like something more on the sweet side, and shouldn't be too hard to obtain. If I had to pick one, I'd say try for a Permutation 57. That was my favorite of the year.

Also, harder to get, but Mornin Delight from this year was incredible.
