Hey all, I'll be brewing this Sunday and I have yet to decide on a good beer recipe. I'm looking for a good summer type beer that isn't an IPA since that was my last batch. Any of you fine people have a tried and true recipe I could snag?

Sure go to home brew recipes and look at @JohnSnowNW house pale ale. . I made it 3 or4 times last year and once this year so. Far. Damn good!

A couple of years ago I brewed a summertime saison with Danstar Belle Saison dry yeast. I fermented around 63F and it reduced the spiciness significantly. It was a nice summertime drinker with more complexity than an AAL or Hefe.

I personally enjoy Pilsners and Kolsch's in the summer. Kolsch's are relatively easy to make if you can control your temperature to some extent. Pilsners are more difficult in terms of temperature regimes.

Belgian Wheats are always pretty refreshing. I followed this recipe recently with a few slight changes: http://www.brew-dudes.com/belgian-white-ale-recipe/248

I just bottled it last Friday, so I'm not sure how it has turned out yet.

Pils, kolsch, steam beer, blonde, helles, saison grissette, so many choices. I would go saison since it is yeast driven vs the hops of the iPa.

I have a Saison extract recipe I got from my LHBS that I tweaked. One of my buddies just told me that it was fantastic and that would be what he would expect when he goes out and orders a beer.

I can't second this enough, but this is assuming the OP has the ability to lager and the patience to be drinking these beers at the end of summer assuming he gets started now on brewing.

If he has to go with an ale, I would recommend a Hefeweizen or Trappist Single

Yep, kolsch is also my go-to summer beer. Brew it multiples times, to keep it on tap all summer. I have a two tap kegerator, so in the summer it's pretty much kolsch, then whatever else I rotate through the other handle.

Thanks for the replies guys, as for my ability to wait all summer, I unfortunately cannot do that for this round. The end of the didactic portion of my medic class is up at the end of June and I want a beer that will be ready for the end of class party since everyone's been bugging me to make the class some beer. But I'm liking the looks of either a pale ale or a Belgian!

Then Pilsners and Kolsch's are definitely out of the question. Pilsners could take a couple of months, and Kolsch's could take at least a month or more. Some Belgians could also take a little more time than ales (especially if you include wheat since it takes time to clear) but you might just be able to squeeze one in. You might be best by going with a pale ale. They take the least amount of time, although they are generally light on taste.

You can never go wrong with a crisp, dry saison - my favorite style to make! Also a Berliner weisse or gose is easily crushable in the summer heat.

Actually, I take that back. A 1.045 FG, 15% abv imperial stout

I'm increasingly appreciative of simple pale beers, and they are perfect in summer. German lagers, CAPs, cream ales, Kolsch. Saison, Belgian single,

If you like IPAs, but want something different, try a hoppy saison. Basically do everything the way you would for an IPA but use 3724 for your yeast or step up Dupont dregs.

Or a more traditional saison is also a great summer beer.

I usually buy an American wheat strain. I brew one batch a year with the yeast and try to make it taste as much like Oberon as possible. It's getting a little late for a Kolsch, Cream, or lager for summer.

Going to be brewing the house pale ale with a few minor tweaks, one of them being using 2 row instead of golden promise since there isn't any of that in my area code. I'll keep you guys updated on how it comes out!

Don't think there's much better than a pale ale for the summer IMHO
