Fine here's a better comparison: Bells barrel aged expedition or Black Note...found both to be better than BCBS. Sure KBS probably should be compared to coffee variant, now that I can't compare because I haven't had the coffee. Now BCBS I have to give credit because of them being before their time for when they first bottled this beer but in today's market I don't see the fuss over it. And yes I'd prefer a KBS over BCBS. Might not compare but I'd still prefer it.

I can't believe the vitriol I'm seeing on this thread over differences in personal taste. I can't tell you how many beers I love that others think are dreadful. Taste is subjective, and I literally can't tell someone that they are unequivocally wrong when is comes to their taste in certain beers. I once tried to argue on here (many years ago) that I found Heady Topper to be supremely overrated, and it was one of the most futile endeavors I have ever pursued. I learned a big lesson after that.

No, we need more of these arguments.

I'd love it if my tastes were more aligned to easily available shelf beers than BCBS. Things would be a lot easier.

Loved BA Expo this year. Now that is a beer with lots of delicious barrel.

You should buy as much BCBS as possible - people will trade you all of their KBS for it.

Imo Bell's Black Note isn't close to BCS. I like BCS, I did not like Black Note. Never been a fan of any Bell's beers. Just my opinion and everyone has one.

Not because of a different opinion. Because you're the first and only person I've heard ever say KBS is like licking a barrel. Sure, I like KBS and that's why I have 4 cases, but it definitely lacks barrel. Liking a beer more is one thing, to lie to people, and yourself, that it has more barrel than BCBS ("like licking the barrel") is just, well, I can't even find the words for that. I guess you just got a "good batch" of KBS too and the thousands of people over the last decade got bad batches.

Say what you will about BCBS, but “thin” is a very odd critique; I find it to be one of the thickest beers I’ve ever had, certainly compared to KBS.

The thickness is one of the main reasons I like it. For comparison, I thought CW BB Stout was one of the worst BBA stouts I’ve ever had, primarily because I found it way too thin for the style. Granted, this was over 5 years ago now so maybe something’s changed since.

Again, personal tastes can differ, but describing BCBS as “thin” seems like it’s just objectively wrong.

Thanks! No need though...easy to find around here.

What was it that turned you off? The cherry? I think it's great, but I could see someone that is really into a well-made, straight up Quad thinking that Boulevard BBQ is too much.

I love both KBS and BCBS. I have KBS rated slightly higher, but here is the kicker; I cracked a BCBS '15 the other night and it was absolutely fantastic (maybe even better than fresh), and although I think KBS hits it's prime at 6 months, I don't age any past one year because I feel like it falls off quite a bit at that point. Just my 2 cents.

Not lying that's exactly how I felt drinking it along with some chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and coconut aded; and that's why it's my all time favorite beer. And maybe I did get a really good batch of it.

Is it me or does 2017 BCBS have a heavy cocoa powder flavor? I opened a 2016 a couple of weeks ago and it was spot on delicious. Lots of dark chocolate fudge. But the '17 I had a couple of nights ago reminded me more of Swiss Miss milk chocolate. Going to dig out a '15 and try it as well. But I'm wondering if I just had an off night.

Interesting that your exemplar of straight up whiskey contains only about 2/3 barrel-aged beer.
