Has anyone noticed that there seems to be two batches of BCBS, one bottled in Aug 2013 (14.2%) and the other in Nov 2013 (14.9%)?

Interesting.. If you need a volunteer to taste test the two and give you feedback, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm willing to make that sacrifice for everyone.

There are at least 3 batches/bottlings that I know of so far. 2 of them are listed as 14.9% and 1 as 14.2%.

    14.9%:
    10/15/13
    11/07/13

There were around 6 last year.

This has been posted, several batches with actual measured ABVs. The brewer mentioned barrel room temps, humidity etc causing the difference.

Now I'm mad, because I waited in line to get my BCBS, and I got shafted with only getting 14.2% beer. Where the hell is the .7% ABV that I deserve?! I mean, I buy my BCBS to get as absolutely hammered as possible, so thanks a lot InBev for ruining that for me too!!

In truth, I believe the variable ABV has to do with them labeling based on actual ABV versus estimated ABV. The GI rep I spoke to at the Black Friday release mentioned that they sent the beers to St. Louis to be weighted on the corporate equipment. In years past, the bottle-listed ABV was based on estimations, and there was likely a similar level of variance between different bottlings.

I just want to comment on how fantastically smooth this year's BCBS is. I opened a 2012 bottle last night and it was hotter than my 2013 bottles.

I have bottles from 8/29 and 11/1 and they are both 14.9%. The November bottles have different (new) bottle caps though.

I don't know if this info is in a thread elsewhere, but I always think it is interesting to know the different bottling dates.

I got 9/26 and 11/06 IIRC last year and the 9/26's are definitely less hot and have been since the beginning.

So here is what I am seeing so far.

    14.2%:
    08/20/2013
    09/XX/2013

    14.9%:
    08/29/2013
    10/15/13
    11/01/13
    11/07/13

Anyone with different bottle dates please post, thanks!

FYI, different BCBS batches released at one time is not unheard of. In 2012 there were six batches: August 23, September 6, September 17, September 20, September 26, and November 8. A lot of people noted batch differences even though they allegedly had identical alcohol content (of course they really didn't).

I'm glad to see them taking advantage of the AB purchase and using accurate measuring tools for each batch now. I'll be curious every year now to see the alcohol variant between batches, particularly wider variations. Between the time BCBS was first released in 1992 and today we've had listed abv's of 11%***, 13%, 14.2%, 14.5%, 14.9% and 15%, so obviously it can vary quite a lot.

Which one? They estimated the ABV last year rather than measure it, and as has already been stated there were six different batches last year. No way six batches of barreled beer with that high a gravity were all identical in alcohol content.

***the 11% batches are from a long time ago, so it's also possible it was a slightly different recipe then

We sent all defective (14.2%) BCBS to the defective states. It's all 14.9% in Illinois, suckers.
