Hey everyone I need a bit of help here. I live in California and one of my buddies is in Chicago for a few days and said he'd swing by goose island for me. Unfortunately he knows nothing about beer. Has anyone been to the brewery over the past few days and if so what bottles did they have? Any brewery exclusives? Or vintage cellar? Thanks in advanced.
Nothing for sale to go. There is a release on Monday at the brew pub but thats it. Anything else goose island can be found at any of the liquor stores in town.
I could be wrong, but they don't usually sell bottles at the brewery, tell him to hit up binnys liquor or something
Brewpub and taproom do not have to go bottles. If he is gonna be here still on Monday I would tell him to get to the brewpub off clybourn at 2-3 and try and get a ticket for their limited and last release of Cthulhu. Otherwise, plenty of other places to get great Chicago locals and limited release beers in and around the city.
LOL. If this question were from 2011-2012, sure, there might be something available at Clybourn. We live in different times now. All AB product to go (if anything).
Sounds good thanks for the help! All just look over the bourbon county sightings thread. Recommendations for awesome beer from your neck of he woods that I wouldn't find in California?
If a friend is doing me a solid by offering to pick up beer while out of town, I'd think it'd be pretty shitty to ask him to go drown in a sea of neckbeards for 3-4 hours...but maybe that's just me.
I'd tell him to get some Pipeworks stuff. If you give us more info about where your friend will be (i.e. city or suburbs - and which suburb if that's the case), we can give you a better idea of where to go and what they'll probably have.
If you are looking for things that are local, and easy for your buddy to pack, tell him to grab: - 4-pack of Half Acre daisy cutter and / or - 4-pack of Pipeworks Lizard King Both come in 16oz cans, so are really easy to toss in checked luggage, and you don't have to worry about padding the hell out of them. Best thing is, almost every whole foods, Binnys, or decent liquor store will have both readily available. At least by me, I haven't seen those 2 out of stock at whole foods in the past 2 months. In terms of easy to find local pale ales you can't beat them (although I am sure someone is going to argue with me in a moment - it is Chicago after all...)
I think Lizard King > Fist City > Daisy Cutter...there's your heated argument! You can't go wrong with any of them - I think I've been spoiled by Daisy Cutter because it's been around longer, and I like Double Daisy Cutter so much that it overshadows the regular for me. Fist City is also in cans - 6 packs (12 oz.)
