What is your definition of craft, broseph? Is it good? 'Cause Goose Island makes some totally gnarly beers, dude! I'd hang 10 with those cats any day. I was totally stoked with the King Henry I had last night, and schea I dug the bramble as well.

Good beer is good beer, bro. 'Nuff said.

Not at all trying to bash on Goose Island or anyone at all I was just reading Wikipedia and thought it was interesting the definitions reads as follows:

In the US the American Brewers Association defines a American "craft brewery" as "small, independent and traditional", and gives a production size of less than 6,000,000 US beer barrels (700,000,000 L) a year and can not be more than 24% owned by another alcoholic beverage company that is not itself a craft brewery (This means Goose Island and other breweries like it are no longer craft breweries due to ownership by Miller-Coors or AnheuserBush-Inbev)

It's an interesting question and multiple previous threads have discussed it. Personally, I still think they make some great brews and agree with the previous post. However, I've decided to bypass GI since the InBev purchase and spend the money on more local brews. Again that's just my preference...

    Cheers

"Craft" seems to be an arbitrary designation anyway. I couldn't give two craps whether it's craft, macro or otherwise. Good beer is good beer.

In terms of quality of product, I'd say that they are absolutely craft.

The American Brewers Association is not the law.

I'm pretty new to the "craft beer" seen and just trying ti learn what I can with my limited knowledge I always thought of Goose Island as a craft beer.....I guess not that it really matters since they still make some awesome stuff.

hummm another interesting item I found
I know nothing is a law nothing is in stone just curious of everyone opinion

Of the 1,759 breweries in America, only 43 are not defined as craft brewers, and 100 not defined as either a micro or brewpub.

I think that they are still a craft brewery that makes craft beer... that being said, I have decided not to spend any more of my money on any of GI's beers, if offered a free beer I will not turn it down, but my money will not go towards this brewery...

Still no Gooseweiser and ABBCBS, ABBCBVS, ABBCBCS hasn't hit shelves yet. Did hear rumors of AB Rare sightings in St Louis lately though.

back when a-b took over, so many people swore they'd never buy goose island again. where did those people's convictions go? i guess all that bourbon county is disappearing into thin air.

maybe the definition of craft is wrong.

I would say yes because when I think of what constitutes a "craft" brewery, it's "is the beer they make a craft?" and the answer to that for GI is yes, most definitely
