BCS is an odd animal around here. Sometimes releases are a madhouse, other times they're wide open. That goes for major release events like at the Rackhouse and such.
If I had to guess, it's probably because we have a pretty long history with it (we got tons of it before they yanked the distro in 2011) and BA stouts just aren't the novelty they once were. Plus, there's a pretty large midwestern population around here and that's obviously one of those items people tend to keep and bring with them.

It's a combo. No one really knew this was going on until the day of the tappings at WOB CC and they also held these at bars where most of us don't go (WOB excluded). Had there been more pub for the events and different criteria for selecting the bars pouring it may have been as chaotic as Chicago.

Second on Cody at WOB Cherry Creek. He has been doing a good job with the selection at that location.

So Jimmy's started pouring at 5pm. They have 4 bottles of Vanilla so no pours of that. The good news is if you buy a pour of the Coffee (also heard regular BC) for $8 plus a cupcake for $5 you get a 2oz pour of Vanilla for free. They didn't have the Matilda Lambicus that they had advertised either.

I got to Jimmy's around 7 pm and purchased the pour of Coffee and got the taster of Vanilla for free. It was when I went to purchase a second Coffee (and subsequent taster of Vanilla) when they imposed the "You now must also buy the cupcakes" rule to get the taster of vanilla.

Glad they changed it because I bought 2 coffee and I was told I couldn't have the vanilla unless I bought the cupcakes. The 3 guys sitting next to me had the same results. They ended up buying the cupcakes so they could get the vanilla

wow, I can't imagine 4 bottles of vanilla lasted very long even with only 2oz. pours. Besides Uncle Jacob's are there any other yearly BA stouts released around this area that are just killer and must gets?

Bull and Bush makes some very very good BA beers (Legend of the Liquid Brain, Colorado Barrel Collective #1, and supposedly Royal Oil) I've never had Royal Oil though, has this ever been bottled? I'm sure @Domingo knows...

BA Fidy is on tap every few months and you can get it to go in 32 oz crowlers. Not a yearly, but an awesome BA stout.

River North's barrel aged versions of their Avarice are great too. BA Fidy takes the cake though.

Royal Oil has never been officially bottled before. I think there are some BA reviews that claim to be from a bottle, but those are GABF or WBC extras. Supposedly we will see a bottled Royal Oil down the line, though. They have a tiny stash of the original batch that might see the light of day at some point, but we're talking a single keg or less than 100 bottles at most. I believe there's a new batch (sitting in barrels) they plan to bottle at some point, too. As of right now they only items they've bottled are their normal line-up, CBC#1, Liquid Brain, Turnip the Beets (which was barrel aged), Yule Fuel, and dry hopped Release the Hounds.
They have a bunch of CBC#1 at Grapevine and the B&B right now.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm also a recent Chicago transplant and it was awesome to enjoy a BCBS Coffee and a Gillian outside in the summer.
