That's pretty steep. If you consider the extra $8 a convenience charge for being able to buy an entire 4 pack maybe it's a little easier to justify. Almost every shop I went to was 1 bottle per person.

Yes, I think you should drive there and lay into them like you suggest. Post back and tell us how that went.

MSRP for BCBS and (especially for variants) is too low. The fact that people will buy it at essentially any price is all the evidence you should need. if it sits on shelves its too expensive, otherwise it's not.

This is not a ripoff, this is economics. The store set the price, the customer paid the price because he wanted the product. It would be a ripoff if the store was advertising one product and substituted another, inferior product. Like others have said, if you don't like the price, do without the product or look elsewhere.

How do you account for the price that the brewers themselves suggest the beer be sold at? Or how about brewers who will stop distributing to sellers who charge me than the brewer recommends? if it wasn't for the brewer the middle man wouldn't even have the beer to sell, let alone sell for more than the brewer wants it to. Russian River and the Alchemist will yank the beer from the middle man who over charge for it. The middle man is taking advantage of a limited supply product.

whats annoying to me is that they are charging the same price for the variants as the reg bcbs...but were all the assholes for paying the prices...we, as consumers, dont realize it but we have the one and only say of what the provider of the product could charge if we could just have some self control

Last year you guys would've probably jumped at the chance to buy BCBCS at $18/22 oz right?

Why is a $8.50/12 oz so ridiculous? I wouldn't pay a dime over $24 for a regular BCBS 4 pack, but coffee...I'd pay much more.

Can't get ripped off when you willingly pay a price for something you don't need. Sounds like the store just has smart owners.

Welcome to the real world. The middle man is in the best position to take advantage of a limited supply product and in this case is protected by the system - so the system is the problem. And the reason there is a limited supply is because the demand for the product is greater than the available supply. Simple real world economics. And as your first sentence says "brewers...suggest" which means that there's no requirement to charge the price the brewer wants charged. And as far as I know, nobody is forcing you to buy a particular product that is in high demand and low supply. It's a choice based on the desire for a luxury item, not something that you need to have as a necessity.
Russian River and the Alchemist are to be congratulated but as far as I'm concerned, they don't need a middle man; they could probably sell all the beer they make right at their brewery.

Since when is it wrong for a business to set its own prices and to take advantage of supply and demand? This thread would make much more sense if your friend hadn't purchased anything, but seeing as how this store is one of the few in the city that had a surplus of BCBS and variants and your friend took advantage of that despite the markup, what's the problem?

Mostly I'm just annoyed at you for publicizing the only beer store in the city that I knew would have a ready supply of BCBCS for a while when every other store sells out nearly instantly.

I have been to American Beer many times and 80% of their store is craft beer no one seems to buy. If upping the prices on a few select releases keeps them in business, I say go for it. What is sad is that your friend only bought the Bourbon County stuff, heck even a sixer of SN pale ale would have been nice. This place has a flat rate of $5/10 for 32/64 oz. growler fills if I remember correctly. We as beer consumers need to ask ourselves if we are good customers.
