Spinato's pizza of all places had these the other night, plus the 312 and some Firestone Walker products. They even had the GI logoed tulip glasses for serving them. This gives me so much hope for the future of craft beer in AZ. Setting aside the whole debate about whether you like or refuse to support INBEV, as far as I'm concerned it's a better situation when I have choices like this instead of Fat Tire and other ubiquitous "macro craft" options.

I've seen Honker ale and Goose Island IPA new at various places too.

This is exactly what I hoped would happen when GI was bought...love it! Now let's just hope that many BAs nightmares about quality degredation don't come true

Maybe we can agree, but I'm optimistic because look at how many European ones are huge/macro and can still have the same quality and integrity. I love my German imports, especially doppelbocks & weissbiers, and the size of brewer that makes them is almost entirely irrelevant to me.

I think it's more sober to realize that if craft beer is going to be truly mainstream, you're going to see things like the Goose Island example as the norm. I think it's a bit naive to honestly expect restaurants and ordinary bars across Phoenix to somehow just have a lineup of local craft beers only, or local crafts and small craft brewery options.

The concern and pessimism is centered squarely on the fact that it's AB-InBev, not that they're large.

Does this mean "switch-hitting" is ok now?

Depends on how it is defined. I think the best meaning is switching between macro adjunct stuff and craft beers. I'm not a fan of having Michelob Ultra alongside Sofie in the same fridge, even if they have the same parent company now.

I've consumed 16 BCBS's over the past two months. Rest assured that there was absolutely no degradation of quality!

Didn't have a Sofie or Jacques but did enjoy a GI IPA at the Roadhouse 66 in Sky Harbor Terminal 4 last week (Still eagerly awaiting Four Peaks in Terminal 4). The server mentioned they jettisoned Sam Adams for this. Have noticed the push on GI products in other locations including a guess tap at the Kauai Island Brewing on Wednesday night.

    Cheers,

    Tom

    Hawaii... must be nice.

Yes I think Spinatos kicked some Four Peaks, which is happy with me. So damn tired of Kiltlifter.

Quality hasn't been an issue yet but the fear is that they will start cutting corners now that they are going year round and they have a new CEO.

I am not disputing or endorsing this theory; I am simply stating the fact that the batch of BCBS bottled on 9/20/12 was ABSOLUTELY the same (if not better) than the last batch of BCBS released prior to INBEV's involvement.

Listen, I don't like INBEV, and I wish they didn't exist. That being said, INBEV does exist. Am I always going to be subconsciously biased against them? Yes, I am.

If they are responsible for making a phenomenal product like BCBS and continue to uphold the standard, am I going to continue to throw caution to the wind and throw "craft" under the bus by buying an INBEV product? You're damn right I am.

I will continue to buy beers that I love. Nothing is going to stop me from doing that. I can only hope that a local brewery becomes good enough to make me think twice (or thrice) about where my beer funds are going. As of now, I haven't given it a second thought.

Bring it on, AZ! Put us on the map by developing a phenomenal product that has the potential to change my life (from a business perspective).

I'm waiting...and so is the industry...

    Amen to this.

I reluctantly went to GABF again last Fall and enjoyed many of the new breweries, including Crooked Stave and PROST. Odell is always a stop for me too. Over and over I was saying to myself "Why can't Phoenix have breweries this good?".

I would be a foaming at the mouth buy local fanatic if we had the sort of breweries that the Denver front range has, and I sincerely want us to get them. But until then, I'm buying what I think tastes best, regardless of whether it is a multinational corporation or a small brewery in San Diego. And I'm not going to just throw my support behind a bunch of existing ones here just because they're local, perhaps with a few decent to minimally good beers.

Like you said... I'm waiting, and so is the industry.
