Yeah, yeah -- it's on shelves and I gave in and perpetuated the early-release seasonal sales, but this has long been one of my favorites from Goose Island and I was looking for something a little lighter this week. Here's my question to any Goose aficionados; wasn't this beer brewed with Pilsner malt at one point? The Goose web site lists 2 Row and Wheat, which I can recall, but I thought there was Pilsner in the bill in the past -- and I see the ABV is down to 4.7 from 5.0 (no big shakes, I understand). Before all the conspiracy theorists start wailing, this year's batch is tasting pretty nice. In fact, the 2 Row gives it a nice, smooth biscuit quality that balances well with the Mount Hood and Saaz hops -- as well as the graininess that comes through from the wheat. It really is an easy drinker for days when you just want a good quencher.
