I recently got into a gose binge after having some Westbrook Gose after a vacation down in Myrtle Beach. With such a crazed, IPA market, i'd love to see more gose beers out there (maybe I'm just not looking hard enough). It was the most refreshing beer to drink on the hot beach days. Does anyone know any other good gose offerings (preferable 6-packs) distributed throughout Connecticut? I vaguely remember seeing Westbrook at Table and Vine in Springfield-- correct me if I'm wrong-- but I am more so looking for something that is readily available down the street. Thanks all.
Seems we're in the same boat. Most of the good stuff is out of state and what we do get is hard to find easily. My favorites in state would be Victory Kirsch Gose, Stillwater Goses (Gone Wild, Moneytree), & any Kent Falls goses. Otra Vez is available, but I didn't really dig it. Also didn't like Evil Twin Mission Gose. Up in Mass, u can get Lost Nation, Anderson Valley, etc. I don't think Westbrook is in Ma.
For CT can distribution, Two Roads collaboration Two Evil Geyser Gose was pretty good. Sixpoint Jammer I did not enjoy at all. If you ever find yourself in MA, I actually thought Lost Nation was on par with Stillwater / Westbrook Gose Gone Wild and Lost Nation is 4-pack 16 ounce cans.
Go to go to Massachuessettes or New York and get a couple of cases of Anderson valley. That's what I do any time I leave CT. I grab some.
Probably not helpful to you but if someone searches for Gose beers in the future, Deciduous in Newmarket regularly has at least one Gose on draft as well as several berliners which are similar in their drinkability. Distribution is spotty even in NH but they do distribute to both Mass and Maine as well.
Does Finback distribute in your area? I know they have packaged at least a couple of different gose variants in 16oz cans: "I Feel The Universe" w passionfruit and "The Known Universe" w lime and habenero. I've seen these on tap in MA.
I don't know for sure if they distribute to CT, but I just stumbled upon Long Trail's new Cranberry Gose in MA this weekend and thought it was really good. And definitely second the Anderson Valley recommendations - all 3 of their variants are fantastic. ETA: I've gathered from the main forum that Westbrook's Gose is exceptionally sour, so you might want to adjust expectations for these other ones which are all mild to moderately sour (to my palate anyway).
Geyser Gose is probably your best bet in terms of availability and quality. Victory's Kirsch Gose is good too, if you want some cherry flavor added. Also available: Otra Vez, Long Trail Cranberry Gose, Jammer Gose which are all solid but not at the level of the other two I mentioned IMO. Also Dogfish Festina Peche, which officially is a Berliner but tastes similar to a Gose.
CT doesn't get Anderson Valley (that I know of), nor do we get Lost Nation's Gose, though with their expansion we will see it eventually. Jammer v2 was really good, but the latest version they put out tastes more like a salty Munich Lager than a Gose, but worth a try. Victory's Kirsch Gose is good if you like a little extra sweetness. Also check out: Alternate World by Kent Falls, Geyser Gose from Two Roads, Troublesome by Off Color Brewing, Otra Vez by Sierra Nevada, Leipziger Gose by Bayerischer Bahnhof (probably in the imported bottle section), and some folks liked Mission Gose from Evil Twin but I wasn't a fan. Thimble Island has a Gose on tap at their brewery in Branford, it's liberally hopped with Mosaic.
Indeed CT does not get AV but any of their canned goses are fantastic should you come across them in NY or MA. I've seen Gosaic at Willibrew and GW Carson's, so hoping it isn't too small of a batch; definitely enjoying it.
