For those who aren't familiar with Gots, it's a list of beers that are currently in your possession. You can add most beers to your list with a simple click and access them from your Beers page. Some use Gots for beer trading, while others use it to track what's currently in their beer cellar. It works, but it's lacking and we've always wanted to do more with it.

Yes. We're finally tackling this long overdue project by expanding Gots to properly keep track of your beer cellar on BeerAdvocate.

    How will it work?
Adding a beer to your Gots will work as it does now. A simple click and it's on your Gots list. But for those who want more we'll be adding the following fields, in addition to the data fields that are already available for Gots (beer name, brewery name, beer style, ABV, rAVG, for trade tag, etc).
    • Year; that the beer packaged or vintage
    • Format; as in the size of the container
    • Quantity; as in how many of that particular year/format you have
    • Notes; optional
And users will be able to add multiple entries neatly under each beer.

    Future Use & Features?
    • Ability to archive beers once they leave your cellar; like in a trade or your belly
    • Tie it into the beer trading system; tag posts, keep track of the exact beers being traded, archive traded beers, etc.
    • Extend it to Places; generate beer menus, track inventory, etc.
    • Maybe @Mike can add some slick AJAX to it and convert it into a public API?
    Timeline?
Mike and I are still mapping out the details, but we hope to have the basics in place by the end of this year or sooner.

    More updates to follow ...

Update: This project has been put on hold while we work on higher priority items. We'll be reevaluating its inclusion this year during a much larger site project. Thanks for your patience.
