Gotta Catch 'Em All

?

How you are currently selecting beers?

  1. Everything from one brewery

  2. As many of a single style as possible (IPAs, APAs, Porters, etc.)

  3. As many different styles as possible (trying to drink one of every style)

  4. One from each state / country

  5. Just things I have never had before

  6. I drink what I like - your poll is dumb (other)

I try to be well rounded with an enthusiasm for APA/IPAs, but new things always catch my eye.

But I like your modest last option

My purchases are a mix of tried and true favorites (70%) and things that I've never had before (30%).

NBS gets my new beer bones shaking... Most of the beers in my fridge are the "Time Tested" favorites.

I wish I had your discipline. Most of the places I frequent have a constantly rotating selection of individual 12 oz. bottles so it's hard to pass on the opportunity to try a few singles of something new. I very rarely opt for bombers of new stuff--because of the price. I made an exception last week and finally succumbed to the Deschutes Mirror Mirror that has been staring me down for months. A $14.99 bomber is a rare "splurge" for me.

I've been burned too many times by having to work my way through the last five beers of a six-pack that I didn't end up liking all that much so now I buy lots of singles of beers I've never had before. But when I find something I really like I'll definitely buy larger quantities. Hence the case of New Glarus Cran-bic I bought while in WI over Christmas.

I would love to have a go to fridge beer but lately I've been too caught up with seasonal beers. So my method is usually to look for something I haven't had before. Lots of mixed six packs for me.

Combine the last two options into "I predominantly drink new things but return to stuff I really like" and you have the answer for 90% of us.

I usually try to buy new stuff I've heard great things about when I see them, and if nothing stands out to me, I'll leave with old favorites.

I am always looking for new beer. BUT for the most part I will buy seasonals. Please don't laugh but I like to see the beer I have tried before and listen to that sometimes faint inner voice that will say " buy that one again." Sometimes I am really surprised at how easily that voice says "not that one again." I had a bunch of choices today, some surprise "not agains" and I came home with beer I have had plenty of times before and nothing new at all.

Currently in a "drink what I know I like" mode. (Mostly Nugget Nectar and Dirt Wolf) But..... I have some half buried lists somewhere in obsession-land:rolling_eyes:. A beer from every state, a beer from every style kinda thing. I used to buy a lot of 12oz singles, mostly stuff I'd never tried but heard good things about. Out of date and mediocre beers have put a stop to that, though I'm sure I'll revisit the mix-a-six shelves some day.

Just get what I like until something new sparks my interest that's in a style I like and haven't tried but I usually find something else in the process. Damn you yeti when will I pick you up.

What - no "all of the above" option?

    1. Currently at 78/129 Pipeworks beers
    2. Trying to hit all of the "Top 50" IPA/IIPA/Imperial Stouts
    3. 88 of 104 styles with the next two on my shopping list today
    4. 46/50 states. Still trying to figure out if DC counts - that OTWOA sure did for me!
    5. Ever had it? No and Yes please!
    6. See 1-5

It's both fun and a curse. But mostly fun.

For New Year's I made a resolution to try something from every brewery in the Mpls/StP greater metro area. Still end up buying the occasional Hall of Famer or Top 250 just because. Of course the trip to CO a couple of weeks ago required that I buy the local brew, Elevation Beer. A good choice, that.

I usually try to buy things I haven't had before. I'm all about trying new beers but that's not to say I don't have go-to beers.

I read the title and came in here thinking a brewery was releasing a Pokémon themed beer series. I have been disappointed.
