Hey gang, I have have a few of my own, have a buddy coming down to SD and wants some great not expensive eats…..mexican, seafood, etc etc. If you guys could toss out a few and a basic idea where its located I would appreciate it. Cheers…….
You might have better luck over at Chowhound. http://www.chow.com/search?q=cheap&...dgroup=United+States&s[]=board_name:San+Diego
OB Noodle House - Great Asian Fusion. I suggesst the Wings + House Special Fried Rice El Lucha Libre Taco Shop - Probably the best California burrito, other favorites include queso taco El Pescador Fish Market: Pretty busy and small, but pumps out the Best seafood. Honorable mentions: Point Loma Seafood. Tacos El Gordo Yelp is very SD friendly.
Gotta second this -- OB Noodle House is a must anytime I'm in the area. Delicious bowls of pho for >$7. And a pretty decent chance Blind Pig is on tap. And most beers 1/2 off before 5. And, if it's too busy (which is likely), you can always hit the other location a half mile away. Not the same vibe, but the food and tap list is still solid.
For general future reference (since I'll probably forget)... if you find yourself in San Marcos for Churchills, Lost Abbey, Rip Current, Toolbox etc... we recently stopped at Las Brisas (577 S Rancho Santa Fe Rd) and it was super solid. The cilantro chicken plate was a lunch whale IMO.
I want to reiterate the "Mariscos Alex" suggestion. Maybe not that particular seafood taco truck, but pretty much any Mariscos truck you see around will be pretty good eating.
Tacos el Gorde de tijuana in Chula Vista. Quite a bit out of the way..but g'damn....adobada tacos are just baller.
This place is really good. Buddy and I stopped there last week for the veritas pick up. The carnitas are awesome...
My girlfriend lives on the border of North Park and Hillcrest, so we like going to Colima's (delicious Mexican food), The Whole Hog (pulled pork and ribs), and Alexi's (really cheap Greek food) when I come down on weekends.
Don Carlos on Pearl St. - best burritos in the business. It's right across the street from the BevMo at La Jolla. Grab a 6-pack, and a bunch of burritos and you're good to partay!
El Pescador moved across the street to the former Moroccan restaurant. Much more space for eating there.
http://www.yelp.com/biz/ranchos-cocina-san-diego Ocean Beach. They also have a North Park spot. Big fan. Quality ingredients, which can be tough to find. But there have got to be 100 great Mexican food spots in SD.
California Burritos in 92111. My fav quick mexican taco shop. Bronx pizza in Hillcrest. I don't recommend OB Noodle house. If you want Pho, then I would recommend going to Convoy street... too many better places.
