Always an awesome event, although with them being so well-known it has become a bit of a madhouse.
It's kind of like GABF - as soon as you get a beer, it's wise to immediately get in another line.
I love the fact that they have so many crazy taps throughout the day.

This is going to be my first time going (hopefully if I can get a ticket). How does this event work? I've read that there's food trucks with food for sale, and bands playing to a closed off block. how does there beer sales work? We used to get Great divide beers a few years ago til they pulled out of distro now I cry for the Yeti. "Yeti come back" I can't wait to be reunited with my Yeti.

Thanks guys! If it's like a couple of years ago you pretty much nailed it. The beers (full beers) were all you can drink last time... pretty dangerous haha.

    Cheers,
    Ben

With a purchase of an anniversary ticket you typically get a voucher that's good for one meal from one of the food trucks...and as far as beer goes, be prepared to drink as much as you'd like.

Never been to one of these. What's the situation like? Is it all Great Divide beer? Do they whip out special vintages?

Great divide does a bunch of one offs (as well as regulars). There weren't any guest taps last time, but a lot of employee inspired beers, one of the best berliner's I've had. They got pretty Yeti happy too.. not a bad thing at all.

Sweet I can't wait. What are some beers that blew people away at previous GD anniversary parties?

Barrel Aged Peach Grand Cru was pretty delicious. Much better than regular in my opinion. I blame my zig-zag bike ride home post-anniversary party entirely on that beer. They also had a delicious Gose (if memory serves me correctly). Since it's the 20th they've got lots of special things in store.

Didn't they have Stupid Sexy Flanders a few years ago?

    Memory takes a hit, sometimes....

Yup. That's been available a couple times. They've changed up the structure a few times, but at the last few each set of taps (there are 5-6 of them) has several flagships and 1-2 rarities or variants. Things like the Vanilla Anise Yet and Honey Spice Samurai.
I can't recall how it worked last year, but in 2012 they actually had a sour-only booth/line. They would tap one after another until the kegs blew. My wife discovered the Berliner Weiss tapping and ended up cycling through that line over and over until it ran out.

I've been to the GD Anniversary party the past few years. Basically, they shut down the street in front of the brewery. At one end of the street is the stage with a band usually playing. Spread out amongst the perimeter are food trucks, tapping stations, etc. The actual taphouse is also open and tapping beers too. At first, it's hard to get oriented since each of the tapping stations is (usually) tapping something different, so you have to search out your favorites. Once you find them though, navigating through the event gets much easier.

To me, this event is more like a party than a festival. It's jam-packed with people....a relatively small percentage of which are beer snobs. You're there for the music, the atmosphere, the camaraderie just as much as the beer. It really is a great time if you know what to expect (bring sunscreen!).

BUT - I'd never in a bazillion years choose attending this event over SourFest.

I love sours, but being able to celebrate 20 years with a brewery I love and respect is what did it for me, and the fact i get to try many different Yeti's in one spot.

Last year I was in town for a conference and wasn't able to get there until the very end. The only thing you missed were drunk, indignant douche bags. The people that didn't work there seemed cool, though.
