Cans slow aging, but I'll prevent oxidation. For what it's worth it's only been in bottles until recently and the reviews on aged versions are positive. I also wouldn't worry about the lining.

Had a 2007 about 6 months ago and it aged great! Aging some cans from last year. With a year on it it just an awesome beer. I can see the sweet spot being 3-4 yearso in cans easy

I just opened a 2010-2016 vertical of 12oz bottles of hibernation last week.. All kept at 53 degrees in the dark for their lifetime. Everyone agreed that it did not improve with age beyond a year, however the 2011 bottle was an anomaly that everyone thought wasn't too bad. The 2010 was nto good. Just totally oxidized. I love old beers in general, and I was disappointed and will never age this beer beyond a year. Interestingly, I had a 3 year vertical from kegs that was the opposite about 5 years ago: Everyone said the 3 year old was best (and I agreed).

The cans would be ideal to age. Less oxygen in suspension, and no light. And no, the lining won't ruin the beer.
