If you going to founders and bells then you might as well hit dark horse. They have great beer and pizza plus a very unique/fun brew pub. Head toward Michigan from three Floyd's and green bush is off the first exit (sawyer I think), they have brisket that competes with what you get in Austin.

Hi: Just came up on this thread. I'm going to be in GR next Thursday for the Founders KBS release. Question is about Perrin's. Is this a bar? Sounds interesting. Also, is going to Bells worth the extra time while I'm there? I'm into stouts and would be interested if they have any of their bottles for sale.

You know that Austin is the home of Franklins BBQ? If the brisket at Greenbush is half as good, that would make it great. Will have to stop for just the brisket.

Peering is a new brewery a little north of town, you can google it.

Bells is worth it to me. You can go to the web site, and the is a camera that shows what is on tap. You could call the General Store and ask what is on the shelf. They sell growlers now, call to see what is on, you might need to buy the glass growler.

Perrin is a brewery and is definitely worth the visit, although it is slightly out of the way from the other breweries in GR. They offer great food to go along with their beers. The brewery was started by former Founders brewers if that tells you anything. They have a Malted Milk Ball Stout that is to die for.

Bell's is not really that much out of the way on your trip because you'll take US-131 south from GR to Kzoo, and then Business-131 right into downtown. Bell's is just about 5-6 blocks east from where you come into downtown. Then it's a quick trip thru town to get back onto I-94. The General Store always has a good supply of their bottled beers, and they now offer growlers at the store for some of the beers that are not in bottles.

Perrin is worth it. not sure if they would have it but Black Goat is damn tasty. also you must visit Bells if you are driving all that way and are going to be close. might have something good in the cooler and always some stuff on tap that you will never see. i had chocolate covered cherry double cream stout last time i was there, holy ballz was that good.

Just to be clear the guy who started it was named Perrin, he had a very big boatload of money from selling his sports apparel business. He did hire brewers with a good record of experience, as he was not a brewer.

I just checked Perrin's website and the Malted Milk Ball Imperial Porter was there. I got stuck for a second on that webpage. If you go back to it, use your cursor to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the second page of that pdf file.
