Always been a big fan of Eliot Ness. Last bunch I got was in the tasters pack from GL. When I tried it I am certain that they have tweaked the recipe a little. And made it better. It seemed to have just a touch of sweetness to it to balance out the dryness. Maybe brown sugar? Whatever it was I like it even more. Anybody else notice anything different about EN?

I would have to agree Eliot Ness has gotten a bit tastier. I believe Great Lakes is changing up all the way around. I heard no more Holy Moses this spring. I'm waiting for the newest introduction for the replacement.

Can't say that I have noticed anything different, I only get to stock up when I travel back north. Though it has always been one of the best beers made in America, period.

Can't wait until we finally start getting GL in my part of NJ- hopefully soon! I'm getting a mixed case right off the bat, and this beer will definitely be one of them.

Yes, I can't remember what it was but it was far from the best before date.

I havent seen a different in the last 2 years, and I moved from OH to NC with no difference in taste. So it could be that bottle or 6 pack you had was different. shit happens, and keep buying it.

Tastes the same to me. Great Lakes Brewery is just 4 miles from me, it is such a treat to stop by and pick up a couple of sixers straight from the site!

I got the same taster's pack. Best By date of April. I hadn't had any of them in a long time. Both my girlfriend and I commented that the Eliot Ness was particularly tasty.

Eliot Ness is tasty beer. I just wish they'd lower the abv, it's too high to be sessionable.

Wow, too high? Is there a Great Lakes you can session, if you feel Eliot Ness is too high? Dortmunder isn't that far behind...

Most of Great Lakes beers have abv creep, in my opinion.

    Vienna at 6.2%
    Dortmunder at 5.8%
    Marzen at 6.5%
    Pale Ale at 6%
    IPA at 7.5%
    Irish Ale at 6.5%

I wonder if that is why they are often considered the best of their respective styles?

no, not really. 6.2% is way too high to session, for that I drink Fuller's London Pride (4.7%) or Honker's ale (4.2%). Plus I have moved on from Great Lakes as a brewery, mainly due to Founders, Brooklyn and Goose Island. Eddy Fitz is the only GL beer I still like.

What part? Because I've never seen it in Manhattan or the surrounding boroughs.

Almost everything Great Lakes does is at least solid. I take them for granted sometimes, but they are still one of my favorites.

I think they are all great & I have never found their stuff, even the higher abv beers to be boozy or hot in the least. That being said I agree w/you their stuff is a creeper abv wise it will sneak up on ya, but I like a nice creeper mmmmm it's like an electric blanket for your insides mmmmmm

Elliot Ness has always been awesome in my book the last few years. I can't say I've noticed any differences.

What a weird thing to say. GL is one of the best of the best. Just because there are other good breweries out there wouldn't make me move on from a top tier brewery.

Enjoy your BMC owned GI, I guess.
