Saw them stocking shelves in central MD on Friday. MD residents, are you excited, indifferent, or sad to see Great Lakes beers finally coming into the state?

I was at Max’s Friday when they had the release. The Octoberfest was the only one they had that I haven’t had, which is really good. If it was distributed here 5 years ago it would be exciting. But now there are lots of local options that are way better in my opinion.

I just heard the collective yawn all the way down here in VA.

I know they aren't a sexy NEIPA/Pastry stout maker, but I've had most of their lineup over the years and style for style, they seem to craft beers at a pretty high level and most are very tasty. Also 6er's for <$12 will be another positive option, vs the plethora of local 4 pack/16oz cans clogging up alot of store shelves (and high priced and mediocre product with most of them). Jackie O's started distributing in MD several months ago, and those IPAs /Pale Ales are very good. Glad Ohio quality/low prices are finding its way into to MD market.

I'm excited and hope it lasts. Edmund Fitzgerald is as good as Porter gets not to mention their excellent lagers. Great Lakes hasn't changed and doesn't need to change.

I was surprised to see this, not because I think Great Lakes is bad, but because I was pretty sure it was already available in Maryland. I used to work on a trash truck in MD, and specifically recall seeing a bottle of Great Lakes in a trash bin from the local American Legion. My best theory is the bar manager bought it in DC or Virginia.

I guess I'm the only one happy about this. Welcome Great Lakes!

Great Lakes produces beers that are very good but not of the styles that beer geeks will find to be exciting. It will be interesting to see if they obtain 'traction' in Maryland.

    Cheers!

I was at Great Lakes Brewing in Cleveland on Friday for dinner. They are one of the classic craft brewers in the country and have been doing it right for over 30 years now. As stated above, many enthusiasts will say they are not exciting enough, but their beers are well-made top notch examples of style, regardless of which one you try. They will continue to be around long after whatever the current fad beer is, and will always have a spot in my fridge.
