Really glad to see GN get in on the Black is Beautiful project, but hopefully they don't overdo it.

So their Georgetown location will be shared with Lowercase Brewing. That's interesting.

Lowercase previously shared the space with Mercer Estates Winery. They shared a bathroom in the hallway and that was it. I’m guessing this actually helps Lowercase in the long run.

    Today's Friday update:

    Happy Friday, everyone!

We are celebrating Father's Day and Juneteenth this weekend.

Here are your 3 Notions for this week...

    Fresh IPAs

Hot off the canning line, we are dropping two IPAs, including a brand new one:

    Shepherd of the Forest
    (8.3% abv) $20/4pack
The dreams of trees unfold in a medley of transcendent hops. Strata, Galaxy, Citra, and Vic Secret come together in this golden imperial IPA, the newest concoction from our lead brewer Sam Z. (also of Brujos fame). Don’t be too hasty to drink it all up – the roots on this one grow deep.

    Baby Jr.
    (4.2% abv) $17/4pack
Congratulations, it’s a beer! The littlest member of the Mosaic Hazy IPA family, Baby Jr. has arrived with an adorable 4.2% abv. With notes of papaya and passionfruit, this baby is perfect for all-day sipping in the sunshine.

    Sourzzz

You asked, we listened! This summer we’ve been cranking out some sick sours to quench your thirst for all things tart and fruity. We doubled down on the berry shakes this week, and we still have limited quantities of Double Raspberry Shake in stock. This tart ale is brimming with raspberry and finished off with a hit of vanilla sweetness. No blender required for all that berry goodness!

Can’t make it in this weekend? We have plenty more bangers coming up, so keep an eye on the app to see what’s dropping next!

    Taproom News

    Wear yo’ mask
It’s official – Multnomah county is entering Phase 1 of reopening today. While we are not opening our taprooms just yet, we do want to encourage everyone to observe proper pandemic etiquette. PLEASE be sure to wear your masks – they will be required in all public spaces next week, but we will be enforcing mask-wearing during beer pick-ups from now on. Be sure to keep six feet of distance while waiting in line as well!

    Juneteenth 2020
We are doing a lot of reflecting on our community impact these days, and we urge you to take the opportunity to do the same this Juneteenth. We strive to practice anti-racism as a company, and we know there is much more work to do! We are currently reevaluating our hiring practices, looking beyond our usual Poached and IG ads to pursue a more diverse and inclusive pool of candidates to fill upcoming positions, especially as we expand to two new locations. We mentioned last week that the proceeds of the upcoming Black is Beautiful collabo will go to support Black Resilience Fund, and they are also doing fundraising this weekend to benefit the Black community in PDX. Check out their page to see participating businesses and what you can do to help the cause.

Wear those masks, and we’ll see you next week!

    Drops

We’ve got a double header coming at you today!

    Mandala
    (7.2% abv) $18/4pack
Man(dala)’s search for meaning comes full circle in this hazy IPA with heaps of dreamy Southern Hemisphere hops.

    Hedge Bier
    (5.8% abv) $16/4pack
No need to hedge your bets on our newest pilsner. Hedge Bier is a West-Coast-style pilsner dry-hopped with a rotating selection of hops – this time Citra and Galaxy. Light as a biscuit and balanced with a crisp herbal backbone, this pilsner is the perfect accompaniment to the warm summer days ahead.

AND dropping on MONDAY, an homage to Ken Kesey, the author of our namesake:

    Merry Dankster
    (8.2% abv) $20/pack
It’s time to hop on the bus again and roll further down the road – Merry Dankster is back. This DIPA will blow your mind with a heady dose of dank hops and wild flower honey. Nothing lasts, not even beer, so don’t get left behind and miss out on this one.

    Georgetown

You may have seen the news a couple of weeks back, but we are ready to share the deets (and pics!) of our newest location, Great Notion Georgetown. We signed a lease at 6235 Airport Way S #102 Seattle, WA 98108, right next door to Lowercase Brewing. The new digs will eventually feature 20 rotating taps, but we plan to hit the ground running as a pick-up point for packaged beer and in-app purchases. This location will not have a kitchen, so there is even more space we get to fill with dope beers! With tons of indoor seating and a killer patio space, we look forward to hosting our Seattle friends for drinks by the end of the summer (exact date TBD, thanks COVID!)

While things are very much still in the works, we couldn’t wait to show you a sneak peek:

(We still have no firm plans to reopen our PDX taprooms for service just yet, but we will continue to give updates here in the newsletter and on social media. You can check @greatnotionnw,
    @greatnotionalberta, and
    @greatnotionbeaverton for news as well.)

    FML Festival

We might not get to bring our brews to festivals and events this summer, but we are super stoked to bring the festival to you! We are participating in FML Festival 2020, hosted by Oozlefinch Beers and Blending and Hop Culture Magazine. This digital festival is going down on August 15th and tickets are available until July 5th. Our very own James Dugan will be joining them for a panel on adjuncts, but the festival also includes a full day of classes, discussion panels, live music, and more! In addition to access passes for the festival, folks can buy the VIP Beer Boxes, which include 18 beers from some of the best breweries around the country (including Ripe from Great Notion). VIP Beer Boxes can only be shipped to a few states, but luckily Oregon is among them! Head to @hopculturemag and @oozlefinchbeers to snag tickets and beer boxes for the fest.

Wear your masks, wash your hands, drink beer, and we’ll see you next week!

    Juice Jr.
    (6% abv) $18/4pack
Juice Jr. makes his latest appearance just in time for the weekend. One of our most beloved flagship beers, Jr. is a hazy IPA hopped exclusively with Mosaic.

Good news for the sour lovers among you! Coming next week is our latest version of Fruit Monster, this time brewed with a delectable combo of pineapple, tangerine, and passionfruit. We will also be dropping your favorite tart ale, Blueberry Muffin. And don’t worry, we didn’t forget you hop heads – we’ve got a fresh batch of Mango Ripe to cap off the week.

    Beaverton

Great Notion Beaverton is now open for walk up to-go beer! We will be slinging cans daily from 12-7 pm, and you can check the pub's Instagram stories for updated availability here.

We ask that while visiting you follow the same guidelines in place at our NW taproom. This means that we will not be accepting cash. Come prepared with your card for now, and we plan to add touchless payment methods next week. Masks are required for entry at both locations, as well as any public indoor spaces in Oregon. Lastly, be sure to observe social distancing practices as much as possible.

No app pickups will be possible in Beaverton just yet, but we hope to add that option very soon. Big drops will still be at NW-only in the interest of space

Dine-in service is still a little way off, but stay tuned over the coming weeks for updates. Come by for a 4pack or two - we can’t wait to see you!

    Super Secret Alberta Beers

We were able to fire up our brew system over at Alberta a few weeks ago, and those of you with keen eyes may already have spied some stealthy cans in the lineup on the app. Shhhh! We are secretly dropping four brand new Alberta beers in the coming week only at NW, so keep an eye on those coolers while you pick up your orders. Upcoming beers will be:
    Cherry Fluff, a veritable cloud of a sour with cherry, vanilla, and floss sugar;
    Jules’ Boysenberry Buckle, a summery dessert in the form of a tart ale with boysenberry, lemon, cinnamon, and vanilla;
Tiger Eyes, a fruited sour with tangerine, coconut, and vanilla, finished off with dry-hopping; and lastly,
Lunar, a fresh spin on a pilsner with Galaxy and experimental Lotus hops. These are super small batches, and they’ll go fast, so get them while you can!

Enjoy the tentative PNW sunshine with a beer in hand, and we’ll see you next week!

    App News

We are gearing up to release the latest version of our app for iOS and Android! We will be rolling out tons of rad new features, including check-ins for cans purchased in person, order pickups at all open taprooms, and more exclusive merch. Even you folks in Seattle can get a piece of this action – Georgetown is slated to open its doors in late August, and we maaaay be dropping an exclusive Seattle-only beer. We will send out a message once the update is live, so be on the lookout over the next couple of weeks. We can’t wait to hear what you think!

Just a quick note: we are pushing back shipping for little longer while we iron out the details, but we are now aiming at launching in Oregon and Washington in September.

    GN in LV and NYC

Heads up, GN fans in NY and NV - we just sent some of our favorite IPAs your way. Las Vegans will get a crack at Ripe and Superstar, and New York City will see those two plus some small quantities of Mango Ripe and JB DIPA. Check your local bottle shops and watering holes soon!

    Timbercrew Thanks

We can hardly believe that the app launched more than three months ago, and it is only with your incredible support that we have been able to make it a success. We especially want to send out a HUGE thank you to our Brushhogs and Whistlepunks – y’all have really gone the extra mile and shown us so much love! We have been cooking up some ways to show you our appreciation:

For our Brushhogs, we are designing a siiiiick new beanie that we will be ordering shortly and distributing in the fall, just in time for the cooler weather. We are really stoked on this one, and we promise it will be worth the wait! Still a couple points away from making Brushhog? You have some time to get those points up before we hand out this round of beanies, and we will also be giving them out to new Brushhogs every quarter.

Whistlepunks, you have really rocked it out over the past few months! Our barrels aren’t quite ready to be tapped, and we promise you will have early access to those releases when the time comes. In the meantime, we want to go above and beyond to show how much we love y'all! We will be throwing something super exclusive your way, and this time it's on the house. We seriously couldn't do all of this without your support, so THANK YOU! Check your email Monday morning for more details, but we think you are going to love it. And if you are one of the folks right on the cusp of crossing over to Whistlepunk, you still have the weekend to earn a few more points! If you can hit 50,000 by midnight on Sunday, you are in.

Many, many thanks to all of you, and may your weekend be blessed with good beer! See you next week!

Pretty stoked that WA and OR will see shipping. Any word if all beers will be on both sides of the river or will there be issues forcing only WA brews in WA and OR beers in OR?

It will all be the same beer that's brewed at their main brewery in NW Portland. Neither Seattle location will have a brewery.

    Drops

Next week we're bringing you a little bit of everything, with three outstanding brews in the works:

    Triple Raspberry Shake
    (10% abv) $22/4pack
Triple the berries, triple the fun. Crammed full of fresh fruit, Triple Raspberry Shake is a fruited sour ale saturated with raspberry and suffused with subtle vanilla. And coming in at a deceptively smooth 10% abv, it will be sure to shake up your Wednesday.

    Mad Batter
    (12.4% abv) $30/4pack
We spared no expense with this dessert stout, our most decadent yet. With silky chocolate, warm vanilla, and mounds of roasty almond and coconut, it may be entirely bonkers - but then, all the best beers are. Mad Batter is the priciest beer we have brewed to date, and with low yields, it won’t last long. Don’t be late for this very important date!

    Pineapple Juice Invader
    (7.5% abv) $18/4pack
Let the perfume of sweet pineapple invade your senses as you quaff this fruited version of our Galaxy-laden Juice Invader IPA.

    Second Chances

If you missed a drop in the last few weeks, or you just gotta have another taste of a beloved beer, swing by our NW taproom next week. We squeezed the last drops out of our kegs and canned up some extras from a few of our most popular recent drops. These 4packs will be available for walk-up purchase in very limited quantities early next week. Check Instagram stories @greatnotionnw for more details (including limits), but you can expect to see DDH Plump, Ripe, Orange Creamsicle, Juice Jr., Strawberry Mochi, Cacophony of Precipitation, Puppy Love, Superstar, King Size Peanut Brother, Super Invader, and JB DIPA.

    Upcoming Drops

    Key Lime Pie
    (6% abv) $20/4pack
Like a slice of Florida sunshine, our Key Lime Pie gose is sure to brighten your day. This beer has it all: fresh plucked key limes, bright coriander, vanilla and milk sugar that bring to mind that classic cloud-like meringue, all finished off with brown sugar and sea salt for a meltingly delicious crust.

    Wiggle
    (7% abv) $20/4pack
Feeling cooped up this quarantine summer? Time to get the wiggles out with a fresh batch of haze! A Dry-hopped IPA with Nelson, Simcoe, and Citra, Wiggle has us positively squirming with delight.

    Super Overripe
    (11% abv) $20/4pack
Super Overripe is here to triumph over the summer heat! She’s the queen of fruited IPAs, lassoing the power of luscious tropical fruit and citrusy hops in one super tasty brew.

    The Mad Batter
    (12.4% abv) $30/4pack
Turns out, The Mad Batter is running late for his own important date, so we decided to hold the release to make sure we get it just right. Never fear, this bonkers dessert stout will be dropping soon, heavily laden with chocolate, vanilla, almonds, and coconut.

Oggy is one-of-kind, originally hailing from Kelowna, BC. He recently relocated to Seattle for the chill vibe and dank brews. He’s a shy guy who prefers to keep a low profile most of the time, but he is also a fierce eco-warrior, working hard to protect his fellow water-dwellers. He has a bit of reputation as a scary dude, but after knocking back a couple of beers, he secretly enjoys a good cuddle.

Oggy gets his very own Seattle-specific GN beer soon. Do you think he's a hop-head? Is he all about those fire fruited sours? Or is he in the #stoutlife camp? You'll find out soon!

Swing by for a fresh tap pour this weekend, and we'll see you next week!

I had Fort George’s version and it was delicious.

How long do releases usually last on tap in the taprooms? I'm in town the week after labor day and am hoping to catch Super overripe on tap since I will miss it in cans. Thanks!

I don't think the NW or NE locations are open for drinking on tap, are they - just picking up online orders? Beaverton is the only location open for drinking and you have to make a reservation? (These are questions to others in the forum because GN isn't a go-to spot of mine.) Probably worth it to download their mobile app and check it out.

I should have referenced Beavertown being the location open. And hoping one of the NW or NE locations open in the meantime. But in general didn't know if they typically saved a bunch for draft or it was mostly into cans.
