So, shared these crowlers with my friend Chris (BBQ on Untappd) yesterday. To say I was underwhelmed by the Pure Guava would be giving the beer too much credit. Visually unattractive, and no substance on the flavor profile. Chris liked it much more than I did though, so, there ya go. Really glad I shared the crowler, as it would have been a chore to knock off by myself.

That Stacks of Coconut though, was really good. Smooth, full, even body, nice drinkability, solid amount of coconut. Would certainly drink again, and almost wished I hadn't shared the crowler. I could have easily drained that, and perhaps wanted another, after a Field 41 as a palate reset.

So, overall, hung jury. Might have to be a retrial.

You just drank beers from one of the best new breweries in the world!!!!:stuck_out_tongue:

I agree with your Pure Guava comment, it's definitely not one of my favorites.

What a fun weekend! We were honored to be invited to Rate Beer Best, and even crazier to bring home a handful of medals. Had a great time hanging with Trevor @deGardebrewing who made us all proud, bringing home Best Brewer in the World. Cheers to Oregon Beer!

Had their stuff for the first time today with my cousin who has a much different palate from mine. We were very impressed by the breadth of quality in their lineup. I liked their IPA lineup, even the Pure Guava. The Double Stack, while enjoyable, was far too sweet for me. Cousin thought the sours were solid, and while not typically liking the hoppier end of the spectrum enjoyed Ripe. For a first visit I was happy. Is it a must hit on every trip to Portland, perhaps that depends on the palate and what's pouring. TETO

It actually sounds as if I might have liked the Pure Guava a bit more than you (though not by much).

IMHO, the pure guava is a pretty good example of the IPA's and DIPA's put out by GN. At this point I've tried most of them (though there are several "one off" variants I haven't been able to try), and this is pretty much what they're all about. Some I've liked better than others of course, but at this point I'm resigned to the fact they're just not making IPA's and DIPA's in a style that I tend to gravitate to.

The last time we visited GN, the wife was intrigued by the menu and food we saw (it looks really good), so my guess is I'll likely be going back at some point. I'm glad they make things like the double stack and stacks of coconut for me to drink, as outside of the orange creamsicle IPA, I'm not sure I'm all that interested in drinking any more GN IPA's or DIPA's.

I really liked Pure Guava, but I'm also a guava fiend. One of their recent beers that I didn't care for was Lunacy. It was just way too sweet for my liking.

I have the same complaint about Stacks of Coconut, Double Stack, and Blueberry Muffin. Someone mentioned Southern Tier earlier in the thread, and I think that's a fair reference point.

I can handle sweetness for the most part, what kills it for me with ST beers is the flavors come across as very artificial. Whereas GN beers at least seem to nail the flavors they're going for.

Lunacy wasn't an adjunct beer, though. Just a straight DIPA with Topaz hops. Could be that the combination of a higher ABV/more sugar and those hops didn't sit well with me.

It made me laugh as well, but as you probably know, the bros prefer that we not post links to RB, Untapped, etc.

Congratulations on all your success and this special recognition. No doubt you've earned it. Truly.

But I have to ask...did you engage in a little ballot-stuffing in this contest, too? As we all know, voter fraud was rampant in a variety of elections last November.

The ISO:FT forums seem like a good place for this.

No assholery intended, but the answer is "an ISO post in the appropriate forum." There's a specific place for trade negotiations, and this ain't it.

You're both correct. Sorry, I really meant it to get the perspective of people in the local area.

Saw an article about a new music venue in the works for Portland. The rumoured location would be about 3 blocks from Great Notion's future spot in the NW industrial area. Link here.
