These are for Seattle Beer Week events. I doubt we'll see much more GN in Seattle until the expansion is complete.

LockNess33 can speak for himself (and I'm sure he will), but...

Unless I'm mistaken, I got the impression he could care less whether GN sends any kegs up to Seattle for beer week. His comment was made in response to the GN statement posted on their website I believe, wherein the owners of GN indicated that the primary reason they were filling so few crowlers was in order to make sure they had an adequate supply on draft for patrons coming to the pub. His point was that this sort of "excuse" was a bit hard to take at face value, when they (GN) were continuing to ship kegs all over the country to different events (including in this case, Seattle Beer week). The point he seemed to be making was that promoting themselves nationwide (and locally) seemed to be much greater priority for GN, as opposed to making sure they always have an adequate supply of beer at the brewpub. Frankly, I thought his point was rather well taken.

So perhaps your response was a bit misplaced?

Great Notion is registered with the WA LCB to distribute their product here on the reg, but I'm guessing not until their expansion is complete.

Your reading comprehension skills are questionable. I think @John_M said it better than I would have:

    Yes.

They sent a couple six-barrels up to Seattle. Big deal. Sorry the beer traders that wait in line for their crowlers got short changed a bit.

It wouldn't be outrageous to say maybe one of the reasons GN is sending beer all over the country is because those people appreciate their beer more than people in Portland.

Actually, this does sound absolutely outrageous to me. I think GN knows that there is a huge segment locally that greatly appreciates their beer, despite your continuous denial of this fact (even though you aren't local and I'm not sure where your impression comes from other than these forums, which is a terrible representation of the overall beer scene).

This is rich coming from the Lord of the Mules.

Firstly, I don't think it is a big deal and never said as much ... I said it doesn't make sense to me and is not really in line with their recent post which was discussed above (again -- work on those reading comprehension skills).

Secondly, I doubt too many of their crowlers go out in trades. When you can only get two of them at any release (yes, there are those of us that go to releases without bringing a harem of mules) and you dig their beer I would imagine most folks drink them themselves.

yep. nobody in Portland appreciates their beer. this must be why they are building a 2nd location in Portland and also why their brewpub is always filled with customers

Not to mention the fact, that if you accept ElijahSF's explanation for GN's behavior, then it kind of sounds like he's admitting that the website post is a flat out lie. Apparently we were mistaken when it was suggested that ElijahSF feels GN can do no wrong.

I don't see anyone bashing any other PNW brewery anywhere near as much as GN. The proof is in front of all of us.

Browse Instagram or Untappd and you'll see tons of GN crowlers acquired in trades all over the country.

Yep, I'm one of the people who receives it on a regular basis.

Also, it doesn't necessarily mean they're feeling the love in Portland by building a second location and you don't know all of those customers are locals. The poor dudes already publicly stated they felt like traitors due to the local backlash they received based on the style of beer they produced when they initially opened.

I personally hate the secondary market and am annoyed by people buying up limited local beer and shipping it away (travelling and buying things in person is fine), but nothing I can do about it. Other than complain.

Makes sense. I confess I have no feel whatsoever for how many folks stand in line on release day to pick up crowlers for trade.

According to the website information, they're only doing a couple hundred crowler fills each release, which means approximately a hundred folks are able to get crowlers every release (I've never seen anyone get less than the 2 crowler max allocation). That doesn't seem like a lot to me.

I've been to several releases, and most of the folks in line look like locals and regulars, but I'm sure some folks come by solely to pick up crowlers for trade. Relatively speaking, it's probably not all that many crowlers that are sent out in trade, but that might still qualify as "tons." :-)

I would still be willing to bet that the vast majority of their crowlers are drank locally and/or shared with friends as opposed to being traded, based on my experience.

Cool .... you must have someone in the area that is willing to go regularly stand in line and then send you half of their allocation. Most folks wouldn't be willing to do that.

Yes these poor, poor bastards who recently opened up a new brewery (they brew beer for their job for crying out loud) in a very competitive market and are seeing enormous success ... so much so that they decided to open up a new facility. I obviously have no insight into their financials, but I would be willing to bet that any new business that opened would be ecstatic to have their level of success, much less a brewery. I wouldn't be so quick to buy the 'poor, poor, pitiful me' act.

They are doing just fine and obviously decided to build their new facility in Portland for a reason. And I don't know how many times we all have to say this for it to sink in:

The vast majority of local folks love GN. Some think there are things they could do better. Nothing revolutionary. And since you aren't in the area, you really have no basis to say otherwise.
