Did the $22 include the price of the glass? Like other people have said, $22 seems a bit high if it was just the beer, but if that includes $4-6 for the growler itself then it's actually fairly reasonable.

All the beers at Bennedito's in Spokane start at $21, and there ain't a whale in the bunch (or a DIPA, I think). I have a sinking feeling that growler fills in general are gong to start to go up, if brewers find people are willing to pay such prices for ordinary, everyday beers.

I think it depends (as always). Here in Eugene, we have a LOT of growler stations. Even some of the local, 7-11-like stores sell growler fills. With that kind of competition, prices tend to be, er, competitive. Current growler prices have been at the same level for several years, and increasingly, stores run specials or give "frequent flier" type discounts... whatever it takes to get customers in the door.

At least here in Eugene, I'm not expecting there to be much of a change or increase in current pricing.

Good point about Growler stations. They haven't been here too terribly long, but perhaps they are having an influence, as 12 String has recently announced they are lowering their growler prices (they used to be the most expensive in town before Beneditto's).

Case in point: GG just started a club. $99 gets you a t-shirt, a stainless steel growler, and $1 off fills for a year. Considering that we tend to stop in at least once or twice a week I figured it would pay for itself in a few months, assuming I remember to bring the growler with me.

Will honor two crowler fills as well instead of a 64oz fill, sir.

Just the liquid as I brought my own growler. Had a sample first and felt it was worth it for a beer I can't get in WA. Swung by Growler Guys and got a couple crowlers of Suge Knite and Hand Truck on the way out... $10 each for 32oz. The trip down would not be complete without a stop to a liquor store for some Weller minus the steep taxes we have here in WA.

The GG down here in Eugene is doing the same thing, so I assume this is being offered at all the GG's.

Your mileage may very of course, but in my experience, these types of clubs are rarely a good deal for the customer. You pretty much have to make the bar/restaurant your exclusive spot to buy beer in order for it to work to your advantage (the whole point in offering membership), and even then, you need stop by a LOT in order to make it worthwhile. The stainless steel growlers are nice, but I really don't need or want another growler, and the last thing I need is another beer t-shirt.

Frankly, I feel like I spend enough time and money buying beer as it is, without having an incentive to buy even more.

I hear you. There's a reason Idaho put a second liquor store in Post Falls. That reason is folks like me who live near the border and tend to make a drive over to Idaho once every month or two. I know someone who is in the distributor game that laments how little he makes from the Spokane and Tri-Cities markets when it comes to hard alcohol. No coincidence it's about a half hour or so to another state border from both of those locations.

After landing at Eppley Airfield in Omaha you have to drive through Iowa before going back into Nebraska. I'm surprised no one has set up a store right there that sells beer/liquor from Iowa within those boundaries.

Hey guys, just wanted to take a minute and say hello. I'm James Dugan, owner and co-brewer at Great Notion Brewing. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has stopped in for a beer, and supported us so far. Here's a little bit of the GNB back story.....

Paul Reiter, Andy Miller, and myself all live on the same street in N. Portland. Andy and I have been home brewing for about 25 years combined. Paul has a background in business, finance, and creative startups. Together we were able to purchase the Mash Tun in July, and start turning that place around. We had to wait 120 days for TTB approval, so in the mean time we focused on updating the place. We painted, fixed the electrical, dialed in the staff, brought in a new chef, Ryan O' Connor, and spent time figuring out the 7 bbl brew house. Neither of us have pro brewing experience, so we're going from 10 gallon brews to 250 gallon batches. All in all, we're really happy with the first batches.

In beer news... The first beer we brewed was Juice Jr. and the last keg of batch 1 was tapped tonight. Ripe batch 2 also went on tonight. The Merry Dankster DIPA is pouring great right now. In the fermenter is Juice Box DIPA, Double Stack (Imperial maple/coffee stout) Juice Jr. batch 2, and Root Beard. Also, tomorrow is the official release of Coffee & Cream, our blonde coffee ale served on Nitro. We love sour beer, and are aging various beers with our house sour culture. These will probably be be ready in the Spring.

If you read all this, thank you for giving us your time! We look forward to pouring you a beer soon. And btw, our name did come from the Ken Kesey Novel. Sometimes a Great Notion. ~ Cheers, James

LOL! Talk about interesting timing. Eugene seems to have just received their current allocation of Head Shake, and it's currently available all over town. I asked what a growler would cost over at the T&G, and was told it's $15. Cheers!

(now, back to our regularly scheduled program)

Buddy brought back a growler of Merry Dankster. Really good, kinda reminds me of Blue Dot when it was good.

I've been to Great Notion 3x in 3 weeks, and I don't even live in Portland. Love your juicy IPA's, looking forward to what's next.

Yep. Really good, but at the same time I'm missing the regular IPA bitterness. Everything becomes a bit too sweet and smooth after a while.

Ugh, I was excited until you said that. That lack of dryness in the finish kills some otherwise really great hoppy beers for me. Good example locally would be Best Laid Plans.

This is one thing I'm loving about Cloudburst. Really nice juicy, citrusy hop profile with an excellent dry finish. The bitterness is there, but still smooth and not palate destroying.
