That would be the one. All beers are $2.75 from 3-8PM and their selections is better than beer-centric bars in most of the country.

You can keep an eye on ODOT's TripCheck for road conditions:

    https://www.tripcheck.com/

Right now it doesn't look like there are any closures on I-5 due to fire. You'll run into plenty of road construction the closer you get to Portland.

I’m contemplating driving down early Monday for a few hours of beers in Portland (Ex Novo, Modern Times, Wayfinder) and lunch at Great Notion with the hopes of taking some cans home for a camping trip the following weekend. Show up at noon or come a couple hours later if I want a shot at weekend leftovers? I can kill time at Wayfinder and Belmont Station easy.

In my experience, 2-3 o'clock is a good time on Monday's to swing through. The owners are typically brewing at the NW facility through the morning and bring cans back to Alberta by mid-afternoon when they wrap up.

    This week's Friday update:

Whatup Great Notion Fam?!?! Hope you’re having a good week. We’ve been busy getting all of our GABF competition beers ready and out the door, brewing and canning, and working on some killer new food specials! What’s new with y’all?

    3 Notions coming at ya:

    1. Food Specials: This weekend the specials are next level, featuring Baja Fish Tacos and Lobster Rolls!!! We are testing out 2 styles of lobster rolls: Maine (warm lobster meat, drawn butter, tarragon and chives) vs Connecticut (cold lobster salad with chives and tarragon). Both lobster rolls are served on Dos Hermanos buns, recommended by our awesome friends @Lardo.
    2. Can Release: Tomorrow at 12 noon, come to 2448 NW 28th Ave to pick-up fresh cold cases of Ripe and JB DIPA. You know about these amazing hazy IPAs already, but in case you forgot, Ripe is all Citra, 7% and recently was crowned #1 IPA in the country by Paste Magazine in a blind taste test of 325 IPAs. Juice Box aka JB is an 8.2% super-crushable all-Mosaic double IPA. He is the cool, nice big brother to Juice Jr...not like Chet from Weird Science or Buzz from Home Alone, but the chill, older, understanding, willing to share knowledge / drop gems type of big brother. The Portland big brother.
    3. Events: In Bend, Oregon, look for us at the Bend Brewfest as well as Whitewater Taphouse and Market of Choice. Next weekend on the 24th and 25th, look for us in San Diego, California at Modern Times Festival of Dankness and also with our homies from Pure Project at Tiger!Tiger!

Hey there, I will be in Portland next Friday. Staying in Boring so will Tri Met in from Gresham on the. Any good breweries/bars not too far from the rail. I left in 2001 and used to go to Bridgeport and Lucky Lab but I know things have changed a lot since! Not looking for radical sours, or soda beer. I am from England so you can guess my taste!
    Cheers for any help

"Bourbon Barrel Double Stack will hopefully drop in October or November. The beer itself is finally ready and tasting amazing!! We recently blended together multiple Bull Run and Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels filled with Double Stack for various years. This amazing aged imperial breakfast stout is coming in at around 13%. We’ve also locked down an awesome label and the bottle size (500ML). We just need to schedule a mobile bottling company, finalize some rad merch to go along with it and decide how it will be packaged, priced and sold. Stay tuned for more info in about 3-4 more weeks!"

    This week's Friday update:

Well Hello There Autumn Weather! It sure snuck up on us here in Portland, much to many people’s delight.

We’ve had some exciting stuff brewing here at GNB and we’d like to tell you about it in the form of 3 great notions:

    • New Draft Beers at Alberta: Coming very soon (if not by the time you read this), we are dropping MoMojito and Wiggle, as well as new Alberta batches of Ripe and Juice Box. We recently brewed and you will see in the coming weeks a tart IPA with apricot, pineapple and grapefruit that was a collabo brew with our homies at RAR Brewing in Maryland. Also brewed recently are a couple of new mochi beers, including Lychee and Lemon Meringue. Lastly, for the SE-Asian food lovers out there we brewed an IPA with jasmine rice and freshly pressed pandan leaves.
    • Cans at NW on Sat: This Saturday, Sept 1st, we will have for sale in 16oz cans a very limited amount of Key Lime Pie (Gose-style ale), as well as I Love it When You Call Me Big Papaya, a tart papaya ale. We may also have some more Guava Mochi IPA and Mandela from last week.
    • New Tanks: We just brought into NW28th two new 30 bbl brite tanks. This will hopefully allow us to increase our yields with hoppy beers and also allow us to increase production. Total now we have six 30 bbl fermenters, two 30 bbl brite tanks and two 60 bbl fermenters. What this all means is pretty simple: more beer!

Have an awesome holiday weekend, everyone! Happy Labor Day to all y’all hard working folks out there and major props also to the GNB staff who actually reads our newsletter for working your butts off to make and serve great food and beer!

What time do people actually line up for releases? Should I have no problem showing up at 1?

I'm sure you've already seen this, but this is what they have on their website:

"Time: 12 noon start time, however, we may begin selling earlier if we are ready. When the beer is all sold out or if we finish serving everyone in line, we may close up shop. Any leftover beer we will bring to our Alberta St. brewpub to sell there throughout the week. We will try to send a tweet on Twitter when we close up shop. We have been typically closing up before 2 pm as that is when you customers have stopped coming."

Just based on what I've heard at the Alberta Street pub, I would not expect a huge long line for the release today. As far as getting there at 1:00, my only concern would be that they might have already closed up shop for the day. I don't mean to disagree with @johnniehops, especially as I've never been to a release, but at least at the brewpub (last time I was there - a couple weeks ago), I was told they've been shutting down right around 1:00.

Now that the releases are happening on a regular basis again, and as they almost never run out of cans on Saturday (which means cans will be available on Monday at the brewpub), I think that's calmed down a lot of the initial "angst" a lot of folks were having about getting cans on release day before they ran out. I get the impression that GN is pretty well organized on can release day, and everyone is able to pick up their purchases without too long a wait. As a result, the line moves quickly on Saturday. Once there's no one in line, my understanding is that they immediately close up and go home. Again, just based on what I've been told, that's been happening earlier and earlier on Saturday.

    Good luck.

    This week's Friday update:

Happy Friday! Today we have not 1... not 2... but THREE Notions. For reals, not playing. Just for you.

    1. Cans Tomorrow: Peach Punch PDX, Blueberry Muffin and maybe some Big Papaya. Blueberry Muffin is a tart and whimsical ale that will remind you of your family’s freshly baked blueberry muffins! Peach Punch (you in the eye) [PDX version] is a fruited hazy IPA that was dry-hopped with loads of Mosaic, Simcoe and Galaxy hops and fermented with peaches and Apricots. Just to keep things interesting, Peach Punch PDX was finished off with a healthy dose of Jacobsen Sea Salt. This summertime tradition collaboration was brewed with our friends @Block15. They will have 50 cases and some kegs in Corvallis and we will only have 110 cases for sale on Saturday, so we expect it to go sell out. 2 pallets of Blueberry Muffin. Both beers will sell for $20/4-pack. Allotments decided tomorrow just before noon, but maybe assume unlimited Blueberry and 1-2 cases per person of PP. [IMG]
    2. Tap Takeover with Other Half and Cloudwater: Hey Portland - Next Friday night the 14th, come drink a ton of beers from us and 2 of our friends at Beer O’Clock in downtown PDX: Other Half from Brooklyn and Cloudwater from Manchester, UK. GNB and OH will have 10 taps each Cloudwater. Do not miss this!!
    3. Denver / GABF: We will be pouring some awesome beers at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver later this month, including Guava Mochi, Blueberry Muffin, Double Stack and Ripe IPA. However, we are also sending a pallet of extra goodies to be dispersed around Denver this month. These beers will be showing up at:
      1. Freshcraft on 9/17 w/ TRVE, Wakefield, Alvarado, Scratch, Three Taverns
      2. Cedar Creek on 9/18 w/ TRVE, Finback, Rowley, Civil, Trophy, Three Taverns, Alvarado, Wakefield, AZW, Scratch
      3. Finn’s Manor on 9/18 w/ Civil, Commonwealth, Trophy, Bhavana, Finback, Modern Times, Cerebral, Almanac, Fort George, pFreim, Beachwood, Fremont, La Cumbre, Comrade
      4. Tap & Handle on 9/19 w/ TRVE, AZW, J. Wakefield, Scratch, Civil Society, Three Taverns, Rowley, Bhavana
      5. Falling Rock on 9/19 for East vs. West IPA All Stars w/ a ton of peeps
      6. Adrift on 9/22 w/ Other Half, Alvarado, J. Wakefield, The Veil, Weldwerks
Thank you everyone for your continued support and we hope to see you at our can release at 2444 NW 28th tomorrow at noon or our brewpub on Alberta one day soon!

    does this make sense?

I understand GNB AND OH will each have 10 taps but wtf does cloudwater at the end of that sentence mean?

Understandable English, is apparently not a requirement to get a job in the Marketing/PR departments at a lot of places these days. Maybe they were out clam hunting the day context and punctuation were taught in communications class?
