My head is spinning. When did $23 a 4/pack become $23 a can?

When shitlords herd their mules to beer releases and then turn around and sell it on the gray market.

I caved and ordered a pour of Double Fudge Brownie Coconut stout tonight at Chucks. While I enjoy Double Stack quite a bit, but this was an absolute disaster. Muddled, cloyingly sweet, layers of artifice that seemed to be all over the place, and weirdly thin for 12%.

    Are the cans similarly sweet?

I don't know. After trying it on tap I had no interest in trying cans of the regular version (without the coconut). The last few adjunct stouts I've had from them have not been very good. The Blueberry pancakes was terrible and the Chocolate Covered Strawberry was worse.

They do a lot of experimentation at GN, so I think it's to be expected that there's going to be the occasional "swing and a miss." That being said, I really thought the Double Fudge Brownie Coconut would be right in their wheelhouse.

I think “Chocolate Covered Strawberry” was as far as I would’ve got.

I remember envisioning a double stack type of stout, but with some strawberries in the blend. I remember thinking "hey, that might be a tasty variation."

Life is a learning experience at times. When GN comes out with their brand new bacon flavored ginger rhubarb imperial stout with hazelnut syrup, I like to think I'll remember this experience and give it a hard pass.

Dude, do you have someone on the "inside"? How did you know that is their next release?

I'm going to be up there the following weekend visiting friends, I know this is the annoying "how do can sales work" post, but I thought it was worth a shot. I know theres the taproom and the can pickup spot, and the cans are usually 12-1:30 or so, but what time is it suggested I show up to make sure I can get some for myself? I know if it's some crazy beer then something earlier, but generally, what are your thoughts?

    Cheers

To on the safe side, I'd probably get over there sometime between 12:15 and 12:30. That should minimize the amount of wait in line time you'll be looking at (which shouldn't be all that great anyway), and that way you can be fairly certain you'll be there before they shut down sales.

    Good luck.

Those that think GN stouts are cloyingly sweet, I’m curious as to how you would put Bottle Logic on that same scale.

I feel the same about some of their porters and stouts as well so I’m wondering if it’s the same level we’re talking here.

I haven't had any BL stouts, but I've had a number of the sweet stouts made over at Modern Times. If anything, MT's stouts are even sweeter than those being made by GN. Not by a lot, but I think they are sweeter.

Personally, I haven't found any GN stouts to be cloyingly sweet (some double stack versions have been pretty close), so maybe I'm not the best one to answer this.

Blueberry pancakes and the chocolate strawberry stout, it just seemed like the adjuncts didn't blend in all that well with the base beer. In the case of the Double Fudge brownie, if anything I think the beer could have used a bit more richness and chocolate flavor. As drone mentioned, considering the abv., I was surprised it didn't come across as richer on the palate (it was almost a bit thin).

I've only had Jam the Radar and Darkstar November, but I didn't find those very sweet (or at least not cloying). I agree with @John_M though, MT stouts are generally sweeter.

Anyone else think this is a bit over the top? I'd definitely like to try it but I can't see that box costing less than $75.
