We are here because we are passionate about beer. We respect beer, and it pains us to see activities that seem to contradict our (sometimes overly idealistic) ethos of craft beer: an inclusive, egalitarian community, where reasonably priced samples of wholesome, painstakingly crafted brews are available to all who wish to partake.

At times there are glimmers of this utopia shining through the dense fog of our daily worries and troubles. Unfortunately, the craft beer community can’t escape undertones of sexism, classism, unfair labor practices and hucksterism.

When beahvior arises that particularly offends our sensibilities, there tends to be a strong response. However, the great majority of the time, this forum is a tremendous resource for beer lovers.

    I'm leaving this alone.

You can tell from my posts on this thread and reviews that I'm no fan of GN. However, it is my firm belief that a healthy ecosystem requires the range from Upright ( who seemingly couldn't self promote if they tried) to the annoyingly twee Great Notion. These creative geniuses/ hucksters / people who've had a silver spoon fortuitously land in their maw are allowed AND entitled to not give a fuck about (y)our sensibilities. I will criticise GN about their pricing until I'm blue in the face, achieving exactly nothing in the process but I will never feel entitled to have access to their beers at a very nebulous "reasonable price".

I need an "Annoyingly Twee Grape Lotion" shirt. Well, at least a toque.

Maybe my language was too rosy. Nobody is entitled to buy anything at a reasonable price.

Price stratification is a normal component of a maturing market.

Breweries can charge whatever price they feel the market will bear. They open themselves up to criticism when they exceed a price-to-value threshold that most people see as reasonable. As a consumer, I can vote with my wallet and choose to purchase my beer elsewhere.

Personally happy with the box set; I'm a sucker for swag though.. and.. boxes.

Super curious what the individual bottles will be priced at and how they'll do that release since they hilighted "for the locals" in their posts about it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they just put some out for sale without any kind of announcement like Holy Mountain has been doing recently.

Me too. I was wondering if this just means they'll make the bottles available at the brewpub at some point, perhaps without announcing it before hand.

Yeah I assume silent release as well.

Or at most a "on sale now" kind of release announed on IG.

Sums up my feelings about GN very nicely. I've long felt that GN beers do not represent a good value, and that the quality and uniqueness of their beers does not warrant the premium I feel they charge. As a result, I seldom buy their beer.

Clearly however, there are many consumers who do not share my impression.

Price will be interesting. I'm assuming it will be in the $35 to $40 range per bottle.

$30.00 for 16.9 ounces of beer seems like a great deal.

LOL! Do I detect a note of sarcasm here? :sunglasses:

Dude, this isn't just any BA stout, it's a Great Notion BA stout. You have to be willing to pay if want that kind of quality.

I have no inside information, but their website has it on the taplist now (which is where I got the price). I'm assuming that means it's on when they open at noon?
