So I'm sitting in a sports bar in my home town (Roseville, CA) and a couple of guys pull up to the bar next to me. This bar has a solid taplist. Of the 22 taps, only one is a macro, Coors Light. The guy next to me orders a Great White and the guy next to him orders a black and tan. The bartender asks what he wants as the "tan". She already knows that Guiness is the "black". To my surprise he ask for Great White right away. I chuckled to myself as I thought about a wit being used in a black and tan. Then I started to think about it. There weren't any English Pale Ales on tap. The only American Pale Ales were SN, Dig, Mirror Pond and one other I can't remember. Then I started to think about how his brew tasted. If you had heard this how would you have reacted? Also, has anyone tried a Wit/DIS black and tan? Just curious.
There are Black and Blues (aka Dark Side of the Moons) with Guinness and Blue Moon that I know some people get. I've had it before, but it was ages ago and before I really appreciated what I was drinking so I can't comment on how it was. If I overheard Wit Black and Tan order I probably wouldn't have given it much of a second thought really.
The only times I have made a Black N Tan are for St. Pattys day with Harp/Guiness. I wouldnt have said anything about it. People drink what they like. Cheers!
Yeah, I didn't say anything either. To each their own. I'm not a black and tan drinker either, but it caught me as odd...
There's a whole assortmant of combinations I've seen listed to make the layered Black & Tans, but I've never heard anyone order one. (other than Bass or Harp)
My buddy drinks the Guinness and Blue Moon combo pretty regularly. I think its called an Eclipse around here. I drink Guinness and hard Cider (snake bite) alot. I love the combo. But Guinness and Great White sounds pretty damn amazing to me. Great White was what started the whole beer obsession for me so it has a nice place in my heart.
