Merchants isn't too far in Dearborn. For bars go to Slows in Corktown.

Do a quick search on places to go in Detroit in this forum and you'll find everything you could ever hope for in a number of threads. There are no good beer stores in that area at all... or in the city period. You have to venture out into the burbs for that.

If you have a car you could drive up I-75 to Ferndale and hit 8 degrees plato at 9 mile and Livernois, they have a pretty nice selection, including a ton of singles. Champagnes isn't too far from there either and you would be down the block from Kuhnhenn at that point as well.

what he said. for brewpubs, however, you got the detroit brewing company on broadway which is like average at best, although it's been years since i was there. Traffic Jam and Snug also apparently is a brewpub but it's more of a restaurant. All that being said though, OT: Greektown casino is always a good time and nightlife in that area is pretty fun.

Without a doubt, you HAVE to go to Green Dot Stables and Motor City Brewing Works.

Green Dot has the best prices for beer around, and also has a pretty good selection of beer (check their site). MCBW makes their own beers. Their beers aren't the best in the world, but they have the best pizza I have ever had, bar none. I recommend the Sopla Fuego if you go there. Excellent.

They're two of my favorite places to go to, period -- not just in Detroit.

Red Smoke BBQ in Greektown has a good Michigan tap list. If you go to RUB BBQ across from Comerica Park, they have about 50 taps and you can buy bottles/six-packs to go. So you can take some MI beer back to the hotel, since there aren't any good stores.

I haven't heard good things about either of those BBQ joints, though 50 taps at RUB is something I didn't know. I'm intrigued.

http://greendotstables.com/ is the link to the site of the one restaurant I mentioned.

They have a "Mystery Meat" slider every week, and also a "Mystery Beer" that changes each week as well.

I visited Detroit for my first time this year, and I had a great time at Slows. The food was quite good, with quite a few good taps and one cask. Good mix of Michigan beers and out-of-state crafts.

Huge bonus: It's really close to the (formerly) majestic Central Station, which was on my dilapidated building "must see" list.

Forans Grand Trunk has some good selections at times and good food. They just added a bunch of new taps as well and sell bottles to go. As mentioned above, Merchants Fine Wine in Dearborn has a good selection, it is about 20 minutes westbound on Michigan Ave. You could take the highway, but it is not that much quicker, and certainly not as scenic. Also, Royal Oak has Holiday Market and Cloverleaf. Bastone Brewery and Royal Oak Brewery are ok, but I hear the pizza place on top of Cloverleaf is great an dhas agreatMI beer selection. Slows also has a great tap selection, which is about a 5 minute drive westbound on Michigan

Cloverleaf is INCREDIBLY over rated. I'm just saying.

I'm going with Alextricity and plugging Green Dot Stables as well. Totally unique place with awesome beer and awesome food and very reasonable on top of it all. My favorite new restaurant / bar of the year.

Don't go to RUB, they never clean they're tap lines. I was there in July and they hadn't cleaned they're lines since March. Gross

Yeah... I was at Olives Mediterranean in Roseville and got an Oberon. It was extremely cloudy and there were black flakes at the bottom... I do NOT remember that being at the bottom of previous Oberons I've had... RUST!? :|

Staying where you are at with limited transportation, Detroit Beer Company is a must.Good Food and good beer..Red Smoke BBQ in Greektown has good BBQ and has 8 rotating Michigan beer taps as well as an OK bottle selection..Also Forans Grand Trunk Just put in 25 taps, They also have like 170 different bottles of beer..A good place to go.There is also a wine place, if others interested in that, right above.

If somehow you could make it to motor city brewing works, they also have good beer and fantastic pizza. Traffic jam and snug is right across the street, they have ok beer and real good food...
