I'll be at home on the 17th, no green beer for me. The 18th, I will be going to a brewery for a wedding reception. Too bad there's no hotels close by, so I have to behave to drive the hour plus home.

But what about Pumpking, Anchor Our Special, SN Celebration, etc? Those are "gimmick beers" for the holidays.

There's a distinct difference in my mind between a seasonal release and a gimmick beer. I stand by my decision to not buy colored beer that is only suitable for one day each year that will then sit in my keg fridge. Oh, and I still have plenty of Fall/Winter seasonals from last year sitting in the fridges, so I'll be buying less of them this year too.

So you are just opposed to St Patrick's Day green beer, not gimmick beers in general. Understandable. So you must not stock Chokolat or Founders KBC (who needs bourbon, coffee, and alcohol), or even worse, one of the Rogue deformations like Voodoo Donuts or whatever.

Irish beer is not green...it's black.
I don't do corned beef on St. Pats day either...I always do something more authentically Irish (usually involving cured and/or smoked pork shoulder).
Corned beef is best enjoyed at a good jewish style deli.

Exactly. I'd happily drink a green beer for the novelty if I'm out at a pub or bar, but from a business standpoint it makes absolutely no sense. I get enough shelf turds without looking for more.

Right. Because most Irish folks are Jewish.

Not since 39 years ago. In Oklahoma on St. Pat's for a friends wedding which was 2 weeks before my wedding in Alabama. Ugh. Closed down 3 bars & found out it does change back to the proper color on the way out. My bride to be got a kick out of the phone call that night. P.S. We're still married, so no harm done.

I know. Who has anything against green beer on St Patrick's day? I'm sure 95% of people could give a shit less, even if they don't drink it, but there's someone out there who has found a problem with it. I look forward to hearing from them.

Not a huge Guinness fan so on St Patty's its believe it or not- i pick up a 4pak of Old Rasputin. Then I'll add to that Jameson's. Which will be Caskmates this year .....

Green beer, nah, probably not. But I may end up visiting a local brewery or two since they'll both have their Irish Red ales on tap that day, and if I'm in the mood for more beering after that (or if I end up deciding not to make the trip out after all for whatever reason) I've got some Guinness in my fridge and plan on comparing the Irish and Canadian versions of the Extra Stout since I still have a bottle of my last Canadian six-pack.

Just say no. The "green" is the hops in the beer. You want to add food coloring just do that at home. Want a real Irish style beer enjoy one.

Not sure if you're looking for an argument where there isn't one, or just being tongue in cheek about this. If you're going to pretend there's not a difference between green colored Natural Light and things like Founders Breakfast etc. then there's no point in continuing this discussion.

Funny you should mention Chokolat though, I still have the better part of a case sitting on my shelf, as well as Creme Brulee. Haven't tried VooDoo Doughnut personally but I'd give it a shot. Again, my anti-green-beer stance is business, not personal. I love my chocolate, coffee, toffee, stag-semen beers (maybe not the last one).

Just sell your left overs for a discount on March 18. It will move. The drunkards won't care, I know I wouldn't.

We're banking on far more Guinness and Jameson sales than anything else, which is why I've got case stacks of Jameson regular and Caskmates and about 10 cases of Guinness in the fridge. We're right next to a huge university so I'm sure it'll all move eventually, I just hate having usable space taken up by duds. You're right about the heavy drinkers though, they're clearing out all the god-awful Shock-top Pumpkin we still have just because it's on sale.
