my local brewery called Four Sons is having a green beer without food coloring.

"7.2% sour blonde with granny smith apples and spirula. Our brewers refuse to use any extracts or so called 'natural flavors' in any of our beers. so when tasked with making a green beer naturally, they had to get creative. Spirula is a green algae (vegan friendly), and is one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. It imparts a beautiful dark green color, and the sweetness of the apples pairs perfectly with the tartness of the beer."

There's a pic on their instagram and it really is a nice dark shade of green.

St. Paddy's Day is tomorrow, and I was thinking of turning a good session beer green. Blue and/or green food coloring doesn't change the taste, so maybe a just one or two to celebrate. Thinking a good pilsner, maybe. Or a kolsch. Any ideas?

Why not just drink Rolling Rock from the bottle?

Other option is to make rice crispy treats and put green dye in the marshmellows. Pair this with a nice dry stout

Can't see the food coloring in an Irish stout.

Why do non Irish people celebrate Saint Patrick's day ? That has always eluded me. Catholics don't celebrate Hanukkah for fun. You don't need excuses to drink beer.

Came in a green bottle - close enough.

Accept no substitutes (such as the current swill Miller brews for Pabst).

People of a certain age like to have fun so they come up with miscellaneous reasons to do so. It's weird.

I didn't read all these post, but I'll say I haven't had Green Beer since I left Ohio back in the late 1960s

Just think how many Gabachos celebrate Cinco de Mayo and they aren't even close to being Raza!
Then again many Jews celebrate Christmas.

The prospect of putting anything in a beer completely turns me off (especially food colouring)

On the topic of green beer, I read somewhere that Dogfish Head once released a green beer called 'Verde Verde Good' (Verde is Latin for Green) that was coloured with a species of Green Algae :grinning:
