Great South Bay Brewery of Bayshore ,N.Y. Is currently serving St.Patricks Day IPA, a green beer, in their taproom this weekend!

I expect to try it later today or tomorrow, and will report back. But, what are your thoughts on green beer?

I realize most bars that do this merely add food coloring to their swill of the day offerings! (Bud,Miller,Coor's etc.)

I assume they just added green good coloring to a ipa.

When eating and drinking we consume with our eyes first. Green beer isn't that appealing to my senses, call me brainwashed, socialized, etc. I wouldn't be excited by an orange cup of coffee either. So in the end, if the beer is really good, then making it green may lessen my enjoyment of it. If the beer already tastes like ass and you make it green, well, it's screwed from the start isn't it?

So no, don't put any food coloring in my Hoponius Union.

A gimmick best reserved for those not legally old enough to drink.

My Old Chub is in a green can. That's as far as it's going to go. I agree with the comments about visual taste. If I find myself the least bit tempted, I'll have a couple oz of Jameson, neat. The bottle's green. No longer tempted ;-)

I live in Greensboro and that's good enough. Now if someone could come up with a black and green, I'd at least like to see it.

Agreed, but, in this case it's a fairly decent brewery that's pushing the sales. In addition to their own Tasting Room they have it on tap at several local bars!

Maybe they add food coloring to the "swill" because the "swill" is what most people prefer. I am tired of the BMC denigration that is so common here. Drink what you like and like what you drink but don't belittle those who don't share your taste in beer.

Freetail Brewing Company's Spirulina Wit is naturally green from cyano-green algae which supposedly adds fruity flavors. Cannot find near me though.

Gosh, I made reference to that film here once relative to some obscure point. I don't think Soylent Green as science fiction is in our collective memory as yet. (or we're too old) So, concerning beer, my wife and I had our first date on St. Patrick's Day 1981 and had a green Michelob. I had more on my mind than beer.

Personally I have no use for green beer or anything else that happens in bars on March 17.

I'm color blind and my grandparents are off the boat Irish. Green beer does not appeal to me. Drink O'Haras Irish Stout from Carlow Brewing if you want a good Irish beer.
