Sorry to start a new thread on this, nowhere else seemed appropriate...came across some West Coast IPA bottles tonight with different bottle dating at the shop by my house that is meticulous with keeping fresh beer. There was no vertical best by date, but looked to be a horizontal Julian date code (sorry, didn’t take a picture). I know this beer can be polarizing on these forums for a few reasons, but, and sorry for the random thought here, I took a look at the date because of a coworker who always buys out his local Target who sells the sixers for $10. Anyone else see this change or see anything publisized?
They switched to Julian dating a couple months ago. 7200 is the 200th day of 2017. the 1 in the middle designates the San Diego brewery, and 1102 is the time of day it hit the date coder in military time.
I guess they feel its easier to do this than just print month, day, year LOL I guess this could be good though, maybe someone can make an app with all the codes and you just enter them and it does math for you, money making idea for someone. Thanks for info!!
Definitely a big improvement. Still, it'd be an even bigger improvement if Green Flash simply printed the bottled date in the same format as it used to print its best by date.
