Hit the store tonight, a treasure chest of "new" beer. WC IPA now has bottled on dates on the neck, not as bright as it used to be when it was yellow on bottom. Got lucky on this, bottled on dates of 3/25, so less than 2 months old. I did see some other 4 packs with no date at all. Not sure what the deal is with that.

Also some Stone IPA still boxed, must have been delivered the last day or two, unfortunately bottled on date was February so this beer is expired before it even hits the shelves. Maddening that the beer isn't delivered earlier.

Saw some freshly arrived Sculpin, enjoy by date of August, I think that puts this beer at 3 to 4 months old, would love some fresh Sculpin, but this is too old.

Also saw many freshly delivered Palate Wrecker, unfortunately bottled in January.

This is the curse of being an IPA drinker, hard to find the stuff fresh. Sucks that the distributors let the fresh stuff gather dust in the warehouse when it should be in the hands of the customers. Cant understand how an industry that can't get fresh product to their customers can thrive. Are there other industries that consistently sell old product?

I've given up getting fresh west coast-made IPA's here on the east coast in bottles. I'll stick to enjoying them on draft, usually in much better shape.

I've "settled" for regularly available 2 week old Ithaca Flower Power as a consolation prize. :open_mouth:)

2 week old Flower Power is mint. Sometimes I can get it fresh, but that is the exception not the rule.

Most of the Green Flash beer that we get here is old. I've stopped buying it. I did manage to get a pretty fresh (a few weeks old) 4 pk of Palate Wrecker while I was in IL a few weeks ago though.

I placed an order for Stone IPA at my store on the 10th. Wanna know what the enjoy by date was when it came in? May 7th. I refused the case and this is generally why I no longer carry any stone products. Im not ordering a case and paying full price when it is no good before it even comes in.

Buy local. I just picked up a sixer of LakeFront Brewey IPA that was bottled on 5/6/13. Awesomeness.

I picked up a few bombers of Green Flash Imperial IPA last week. Bottled on 4/11/13 - I thought that was pretty darn acceptable considering my location..

IPAs that are not local or at least regional are often a waste of money. The one exception would be really popular stuff like DFH, Sierra. Unfortunately Stone and Rogue don't match this exception.

I was in Foodtown Express in Yonkers a few days ago when a case of Enjoy by 5.17 arrived. The beer guy was genuinely pissed off. Too close to the date.

There was a treasure chest of West Coast greatness there, unfortunately all old.

Just picked up a few bottles of Knee Deep Simtra 3x IPA with a 5/7/13 bottling date. 9 days old. Wish it could of been fresher.

Contact your Stone sales rep. They'll get on the distributor, they take freshness very seriously.

Lack of localized competition, for one. There's usually only one distributor for a given brand in each territory/state. If people want Beer X they have to get it from them, whether or not it's fresh.

Also, they rely on the fact that only a tiny, tiny fraction of beer drinkers look for a bottled on date. Despite the daily "IPA freshness" rant threads on this site, the vast majority of people either don't know or don't care if the beer is 6 weeks old or 6 months old.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Torpedo can be found days after being bottled at my local grocery store.

    Everything else... good luck.

Green Flash's new brewery in Virginia Beach will make for fresher deliveries in the eastern half of the US.

Yeah, but I blame the distributor as they are delivering the stuff when it is is already old.
