Got an email today offering a gift for my trouble.

Breweries' t-shirts are $20-25 a piece. So, there you go! Maybe some stickers and a glassware.

Haven't seen that email, yet. Am also certainly not going to lean towards Mike's recommendation that I go ahead and delve further into the two remaining bottles I have left: fool me once....

Seeing trusted BA members also identifying this as an expanding issue lends credence as to why I will not open the last two C3's until the matter with the Brewer is fully resolved. Drain pouring $20.00 was painful enough...likely adding another $40.00 to a sink sacrifice won't be any better.

Where these were initially a 1 bottle/person item at several retailers in Denver; they are now sitting on shelves and in coolers several bottles deep. Whether or not this can be attributed to the cost or that word is getting out about apparent quality issues I'm not sure. However, it is fast becoming apparent that this is more than an issue with 1% of the release. I have long enjoyed Green Flash but this is certainly becoming a blemish and will hopefully be resolved soon with their customer's best interests in mind.

Do you have the receipts? I was able to return my bottle to the store - based on this thread I decided it wasn't even worth opening to find out - just took it back and they refunded. Worth a shot if you can.

Unless a brewer finds actual evidence of significant issues, there will always be doubts. I've never seen a brewer take the public's word over their own experience, particularly when it starts in a forum many breweries hate anyway.

My bottle was crap, but I only paid $10 and I knew the risk going in. I sent a note on facebook, but did not receive a reply.

I don't...try to avoid any possibility of me having to come face to face with just how much I spend on beer every month  And, I've never really had to deal with an issue similar to this which would merit returning the product...been lucky, I guess.

Thankfully, the few places that I go to know me and would likely take them back without a receipt. However, I'm hoping to have this resolved directly with the Brewer; and therefore not have to inconvenience my stores with incoming product that should likely never have left the brewery in the first place.

I think that you did the right thing. Very possible that it would have been a repeat of your first experience.

I emailed them as well, but I'm not expecting anything in return. Hopefully all of the examples will help them figure out what the issue is and avoid it in the future.

I never even bothered opening one of them - was reading the thread a few weeks ago, and decided it wasn't worth the risk. The store I shop at will actually take returns of opened bottles if there is a problem / infection, but I didn't want to go through the hassle for a beer that is catching this much flak

Seems that this beer has had a lot of problems and I am glad that I did not try to buy this, let alone try this. Green Flash probably has lost some followers and they have taken a hit to their reputation.

Interestingly, I doubt their will be much impact on their regular business. We few BA's who get mad about this sort of stuff are also quick to forget when the next 'great' beer comes out, and besides, BA's make up such a small percentage of their every day customers.

Their West Coast IPA will still sell just fine, but I agree, there will probably be a decent number of beer geeks who hesitate to pull the trigger on a $20 bottle of their next Cellar 3 release...

I didnt have the same problem as many on here.

But I will say that it wasnt that great of a beer. The barrel aging did not integrate well with the base beer and it was kind of a mess.

Rarely look at the beer releases section - had no idea this was an issue. I bought two bottles on two occasions in NYC - both were fine. Definitely not my favourite BA stout by any means, but not infected.

Popped back in to check this thread, I was one of the ones that got two good bottles and am holding a third. Still had one empty in the recycle and since I bought them at the same time/place - they all are 2/16/15 bottle date. I know where one more is, going to buy it now, (noted that it has been marked down to $14.99 ?),....

Blending is an art after all, isn't it?

Sorry to I took a chance and wound pouring $20.00 down the drain too.

I'm dubious that all of these $20 bottles that are supposedly being drain-poured are actually meeting such an ignominious end.

too much time in the barrel but more often poor storing conditions, temperature control is a big deal, it should be treated in the barrel the same as if it were going to be cellared in the bottle i beleive.

I really did pour half my bottle down the drain after choking down the first half. Not a figure of speech and something I've done only a handful of times

I've had this on tap and in bottles and it has been great each time. I just cannot verify any of these rumors. I got a really great roasted complexity to it, it was lightly sweet, but there was certainly nothing "wrong" with it, as this thread reports.

I saw one poured out, after about half of it was tried by two people. I smelled it. You'd have to be smell-deaf not to realize the beer was complete shit.

I shared with a group of six people or so. Nobody could stand to drink more than 2 sips before the bottle got dumped. The reviews in this thread are not an exaggeration.
