Yes....Outstanding beers at Cellarmaker -- everything was stellar. Tiny Dankster (5% Nelson hopped pale) was my BiS for the 3 day crawl. Brought a few back to Boston....

Talked to the Green Flash rep here a while back and they already had plans to brew Pure Hoppiness . They just needed a Hop back and they had one on order . Glad to hear that they are finally brewing it . Had it a few years ago and loved it .
Really lookin forward to having the new brewery here in Virginia Beach

    Bombers just hit central Cali.
8.99 for duet and HB and 10.99 for Nelson (ouch)

I've had original Alpine and recently had some on draft. The HB was not good at all, keg had to be old. The Duet, honestly was very good. Not quite on par with Alpine brewed offerings, but damn good nonetheless. It was better than the Just Outstanding on tap that day which is a comparable offering.

I thought we were talking about Alpine's regular lineup and on a larger scale than a couple of bars. What I was saying is I find it hard to believe that duet, nelson, and pure hoppiness that is distributed throughout southern california is produced exclusively at alpine. It seems like their equipment at Alpine can hardly handle the demand for regular customers at the brewery since they often run out of nelson and pure hoppiness quite frequently.

ohhhhhhhhhh. Yeah you're probably right. Maybe a few years ago they sent some kegs out. But not anymore.

Though I don't care as long as the beer tastes right.

Cellarmaker gets no recognition on this site. Love that Tiny Dankster. Named my cat after it.

I've had Alpine brewed Nelson, Duet and Pure Hoppiness. All great. I haven't had GF Pure Hoppiness yet, but Nelson has gotten somewhat better and Duet just has not been the same. Way maltier and bitter. It must be the equipment they use or something because it just has a certain taste to it. Alpine is much more raw.

    My small take.

Back in May, a fellow BA member traded some Alpine brewed Alpine with me. Among those, two Nelsons just days old. I had never had this beer prior, so it was a big first.

I felt a touch underwhelmed after believing the hype. Hype levels were 5 out of 5, juiciness everywhere. But it ended up being, Aromas not that bright. I got a sense of some orange juice type vibes from the flavors along the way though. Very smooth clean mouthfeel and finish. Everything seemed slightly mild A 4.5/5 on untappd for me

Fast Forward to a couple days ago.. GF Alpine.. This one seemed livelily. Fresher smelling. But it was the taste that seemed different. If this beer had no association with GF or Alpine and was a beer on its own, it would be rated among the best imho. The rye notes made it spicier too. Barely any sense of any tropical notes. But the bitterness and hops were there. I think I ended up with a 4.25, but just know this would do quite well in a blind among NM IPAs. For now, my mind is totally messed with, and I think most should feel that way.

Blind is the only way to go though. Someone has to do it!

TLDR; Didnt quite have a big WOW moment with Alpine's Alpine to hold such strong feelings. But I'm caught in a bind feeling that it COULD be or is different now.

There is a podcast from 4 Brewers I which they did a blind taste test with all 3. They all thought the beers were different between the two breweries and some liked the GF version better than Alpine and vice versa. The general consensus was they were like two completely different beers. One thing I personally notice is GF versions are more bitter and aggressive, which some people like. Nelson to me has always been a soft beer with minimal bitterness but big aromatics.

This was my wife & I's exact impression as well, we've had a decent amount of Alpine Nelson (for an east coaster) and the first thing we noticed was more bitterness in the GF version. That being said, I still enjoyed drinking Nelson, it just was not as I remembered it.
The Duet....well...maybe I need to try another GF one.

I haven't read through all of this thread, but has anyone taken an actual look at the julian date on your Hoppy Birthday bottles? This says "15282" which I believe is claiming it was bottled a day after I bought it...
