Out of curiosity are you able to judge if your customer base is expanding with new repeat customers who can pick up the sales of these breweries that you say are being squeezed out? I personally think that the craft beer customer base is expanding so that no brewery should suffer, as long as they have a good product.

It does seem that the good beer will always sell, just maybe not as well with a segmented customer base purchasing new products. The BA or enthusiast seems to be quite promiscuous when it comes to buying beer, there is always room for the die hard fans. Ex. I have a customer that only buys Two Hearted, around a case a week and refuses to drink any other beer unless we run out and he can't find it anywhere (my hero). We are definitely seeing growth of certain out of state beers which have lagged in the past, (Anderson Valley). I didn't mean that the breweries will be completely squeezed out, there will always be a place and a customer for good product, there just may be a smaller distribution footprint.

Bars and stores are different. With little space, our customers rely on me to bring the best beers possible. I don't always agree with what sells but it's a business. And every really good brewery that comes to Michigan I try to get their beer to introduce to our customers. Oskar blue is a terrific brewery but I don't see it much in bars, but i do see it at every store I walk into. Powers may be getting to big of a portfolio in my opinion. Some brands will suffer. I'm excited for palate wrecker. Pale ales and any style IPA always does well for us

I agree with this post so many levels, Powers doesn't seem to have an inventory system capable of handling of the new breweries and beers coming in to deliver them with any accuracy. The sales force seems knowledgeable enough, but the logistics is lacking to say the least. You have been to my store, it pales in comparison to the size of some of the beer stores out there, so I try to choose the best available beers to offer to my customers. We have the same problem/solution to what is happening to the industry and it seems to be working for both of us. I honestly wish I had the space of Total Wine out West, BevMo, or Specs, but we just don't currently have the capability to expand to the level that those chains reside.

I love your store. You've got a well deserved reputation. You have a certin buying power, and rightfully so. You've earned it. Here's a quick rundown of what powers is out of that I asked for on draft, Sam Adams octoberfest, angry orchard, screaming pumpkin and all kuhnhenns (understandable). So when I make a draft order w/ imperial lighter then normal because I'm told I can have some of these, I'm left scrambling Friday afternoon, lol. I make it work though. You hear a release date? Rumor is 1st full week of October
