It looked like the other Greenville threads are locked / old so starting this one.

I will have some time on a Friday afternoon and Sunday around lunch (flying in and out of Greenville on a trip to Clemson). Looking for brewery suggestions for a quick Friday visit and/or for late lunch on Sunday. I will have my 10 year old with me so kid friendly a definite plus. I'm generally happy style-wise except at places that are sour dominated.

    Thanks!

Birds Fly South would be my pick. Large variety of styles (farmhouse are their bread and butter), lots of outside seating (and very kid friendly), white duck taco on site, a meadery, and place for the kids to get ice cream (at the coffee shop) while you enjoy your beverages. Also lots of options for beer to go if you so choose.

I second the notes above, BFS is a must stop for all the reasons given. I’ll add if you’re a stout/barleywine fan you’ll want to check what’s happening at Eighth State. Smallish place that’s not exactly kid friendly but if they’re pouring/releasing any of their big beers that weekend it’s worth a visit for sure. Just a couple of miles from BFS, near the ball park.

To pile on here with some other good places (BFS and Eighth State are my 1a and 1b):

Southernside - great food, pretty good beer; cool outdoor area along the river/Swamp Rabbit trail. Good bourbon selection/cocktails as well.

Pangaea - Right across the river from Southernside. Fantastic pizza, decent beer selection that's still getting rolling. Also a great outdoor space. For more food options/takeaway beers visit the Commons next door

Fireforge - Downtown, probably the best beers of this group. I think they're doing their own food now, and they frequently will have a food truck or popup.

Community Tap - downtownish, excellent selection of local/regional drafts plus takeaway beers and wine, usually a food truck onsite

The Whale - excellent selection of local, national, hard-to-find beers. Definitely lives up to its name

Exile - Not much in the way of beer, but some EXCELLENT cocktails that are reasonably priced

Tetrad - good beers, usually a food truck

Liability - good beers, shares a common area with Moes bbq

headed to greenville next week. Very excited to check out 8th state and The Whale. Staying downtown at the AC hotel. any other breweries in the area worth checking out? BFS from the current tap list looks pretty good. any other standouts brewery wise?

Fireforge is probably the best of the rest that I listed above, and bonus for you is that it's a short walk from the AC through the heart of downtown.

Southernside has also been doing some good stuff lately, and it's definitely worth a visit. You could easily spend an afternoon hopping around between there, the Commons, and Pangaea; they're all right there together on the river/Swamp Rabbit trail, and have the nice backdrop of Unity Park, which is finally starting to take shape.

I should also mention that Yee Haw is downtown, and they're in a partnership with Greenman out of Asheville and Prince's from Nashville. So they've got some decent beer, a great outdoor space, and some super spicy hot chicken. Definitely worth a visit.

Ended up only making it to Birds Fly South this trip, but it seemed the most commonly suggested. It did not disappoint. The area outside there is wide open and separated from the road/parking lot for kids. My son played football with a couple other kids. The beers were excellent.

Back in town for Clemson graduation this coming week, staying in downtown Greenville this time. As mentioned in prior post, only made it to Birds Fly South last time. We are easy walking distance to Fireforge and Yee-Haw this time so figure we will hit those. Any places stepping it up that we should move to the top of the list? Any must eat stops?
