Anyone have any info on craft beer in Grenoble? Particularly Cantillon, if available. A friend is travelling there an expressed interest in picking any cool beer up.
Yup I know some places in Grenoble. Unfortunately for you, there is no beershop where you can find bottles of Cantillon. BUT there is a very good brewery maybe one of the best of France (okay it's easy to be^^!) called La Brasserie du Mont saleve. http://labrasseriedumontsaleve.com/ To find lambic you have to drive almost 200km Cheers !
I had some beers from Brasserie du Mont Saleve while I was in Chambéry over Christmas, and I agree that they were actually pretty good in comparison to other craft beers from France. I especially enjoyed the mosaic black bitter. It was like a session version of an American black ale. Light and easy to drink, but still interesting. Pleine Lune also had a relatively nice IPA called Bière Aubeloun. They are close to Grenoble, so I imagine you might be able to find some of their beers there. But really, their best product is Chartreuse. Did a tour of the distillery last summer. Absolutely delicious.
Just wanted to reply as I am an (adopted) american looking in these forums as I have recently totally adored some french biere de gardes (Page 24 Biere De Printemps or anything by Brasserie St Germaine, Castelain Blonde and Jenain) and maybe if I strayed to belgium also adored brasserie Blaugies. Not everyone only looks for CantillonI have really have started to adore your french breweries and want more. Really liking the biere de gardes and such like. Any recommendations for me looking further deeper. As you see I am not looking for IPAs but the best and more mellow you have to offer and that might have been imported over to USA.
