I planted some hop vines a few years back and they finally flowered this year. I bought them from a local garden store and they couldent tell me what they were. Besides looking great in my garden the last few years I have been excited to use them. I had a yield of 1oz, so I used them as my aroma hop in my last HB. As I said I have no idea what they are. They are not pungent smelling at all, they have a slight lemon smell, thats all i get from them. My HB should be ready to drink next week, i am excited, but does anyone have any idea what type of hop smells like lemon?

There are some ornamental varieties that nurseries sell and probably are not suitable for brewing. But tear one open and look for yellow globules on the inside. Rub a cone between your hands and smell it. And even if it doesn't do much now, it still may work in a couple of years. My Cascades smelled (and made my beer taste)like freshly cut lawn grass for the first 2 or 3 years.

Yeah, i thought it may be ornamental, but there is a bit of yellow globules on the inside, but the smell it a bit like cut grass and lemon. The beer i made with is smells great, and i am excited to try it though.
