I just brewed my first batch and bottled it. Should be ready to drink but I noticed a greyish layer on the bottom of the bottles. I didn't filter anything and was just wondering if it's safe to drink? It smells good, when I open a bottle all of the carbonation is coming up from that grey layer. I don't know if it yeast or priming sugar

It's probably just yeast. If it's a very thick layer, consider waiting longer before bottling next time, or perhaps cold crashing before bottling.

It's definitely yeasties that sunk to the bottom of your bottle, they're harmless, and actually drinking that stuff is good for your health believe it or not

They're not good for anyone you share a bed or elevator with, however.

I agree that it's yeast, but depending on how much car you exercised during the beer transfer into the bottling bucket, you could have some hops trub in the bottles too. But that's still not an issue as long as it's not excessive. The longer you store your bottles before drinking them, whatever the stuff is will begin to compact on the bottom of the bottle so that pouring off the beer will become easier.
