New month, new monthly Grimm thread.

For info directly from their website
    http://grimmales.com/

Their new online shop is open. Check out their gorgeous glassware and shirts.

Grimm beers are usually in high demand (especially the cans). Cans have been limited to low counts per person. Grimm Artisanal Ales supply their beers at low prices (and have NOT raised their prices recently) to the distributor, who supply the retail shops, and therefore are not responsible for the final price you may encounter. They try to support the "Mom and Pop" shops that sell their beer. Hopefully, we should all support these small shops. Also available at select Whole Foods beer departments with limits to spread the wealth among your fellow BA brethren. :sunglasses:

The latest fitness craze has been the checking of this thread and Beermenus for their cans/bottles and running around town trying to get them before inventory is sold out. Needed exercise for some of our fellow beer enthusiasts. :grinning: If you miss out, you can usually find their beer on tap.

Post away and yes, Joe and Lauren (the Grimm's) monitor this thread and are great about responding to your questions and comments. Especially, if you tag them @Grimm_Artisanal_Ales. Great people, great couple, great brewers.

    Artwork

The beautiful Grimm artwork on their labels is designed by Lauren, about 50% from scratch and the rest using Gretta Johnson's (their longtime friend) artwork.

Check out http://grettajohnson.com/ for more about this talented artist.

The artwork on the Splish can is by Joe's old band mate, and incredible artist, Brian Alfred.

The artwork on the Awoogah IPA and the recently released Light Year can is by the amazing Lauren Grimm. She can do it all!

    Can advice:

Keep cold! Drink Now! Roll can to suspend hop particles.

Upcoming Grimm releases for December (subject to change)

Light Year: Double IPA - cans and draft

Castling: bitter, noble farmhouse pale ale - bottles and draft

Zap: Double IPA - cans and draft

Color Field (new version): dry hopped sour ale brewed with hibiscus, chamomile, rose hips - bottles and draft

    AND

possible release of Cube Cuvee #3: saison de coupage (more likely a January beer however) - draft only

Solo domed a Sumi Ink last night. Probably not a wise idea, but, whatever.

    - Awesome, awesome mouthfeel highlights the beer for me. Super smooth! Surprised it's 13.5%, can't taste the booze except a slight hint on the back end. Made finishing it alone a lot easier.

    - Vanilla comes through nicely as it warms up.

    - Wish I got a bit more of the barrel but I'm nitpicking. Would love to see this done with some coffee ( a la Holy Mountain Midnight Still, my beer of 2016).

I too felt the barrel characteristics- at least those I've gotten from many of my other favorite aged stouts- were underrepresented in Sumi, but because it is so incredible it feels nitpicky to point out. I'm holding out hope too that with some time in the cellar it develops in that direction.

I think soling it is the best idea.

Not to say either of you is wrong about barrels and your preference, but I loved that there wasn't as much barrel character! That's why this is one of my favorite barrel aged stouts I've had recently.

He seemed dubiously informed but I wasn't about to annoy a guy just trying to work.

I have the bottles of Sumi I wanted and I've had Compass on tap so I'm fine. I was just looking for some cans.

I hadn't read this thread, but I went to WF 57th at 2:15 and asked/received a bottle of Sumi Ink. I didn't ask about MC.
