Your brews are fantastic, but TH's IPAs are quite different. Not ranking, just saying I don't think anyone who is familiar with both brands would have a difficult time picking out each brewer in a blind taste test.

I am a huge fan of Trillium, Tesseract is right there with them. Not as good as say DDH Melcher Street, but as good as many of the others. As I said in another post, I have Tesseract, Street Green and Mo Shuggie in my fridge, all from good ole NYC. I wouldn't trade the 3 of them right now for any other 3 beers from another region.

to be honest, i've only had it out of the can. I think i must have gotten bad cans of afterimage and thought pulsewave was ok. I saw tesseract yesterday in westbury but wasn't about to drop 10 dollars on it.

Yeah that's BS. I've had plenty from Trillium, Treehouse, HF, Alchemist, Fiddlehead and Grimm stands up with any of them and in most cases is better. "Good for NY" get out of here with that neckbeard crap.

As someone growing out the neckbeard a little I take offense to this.

Joking aside, who cares, everyone here is going to have their own opinion on how it stacks up against the other NE breweries, and as @Koges mentioned, each of these breweries have their own taste that makes them a little different so pointless to compare, just be happy that there is something that is being released locally that people actually want.

It will be nice when Grimm has a place set up so we don't need to run around from store to store for a few cans and have to deal with shitheads like those at 9th avenue.

@hthoag I agree. Harlan is a tasty beer and I love Columbus, but Tesseract is one of the best doubles I've ever had

Agreed. I didn't absolutely love AfterImage, so I was prepared to find it good but not great (like the way I feel about a lot of OH's and Finback's canned DIPAs). Tesseract really blew me away, though. Was very hard to find fault with that beer.

...which is annoying, because Grimm has somehow become the Alchemist of NYC.

I didn't love afterimage either, but was absolutely blown away by Pulse Wave. Tesseract for me has been a really close second to PW. Can't wait for whatever comes next. And have exercised extreme restraint not opening the Double Negative in my fridge.

"Good for NY" is such a useless, outdated phrase with how good the beer in New York is these days

According to Peter Cotter of Bluepoint, you could brew beer in an old sock. Although he was joking - if that philosophy holds true, being able to brew world-class IPA's in a warehouse beneath the BQE or as a gypsy brewery, is just as valid. Okay well only sort of because of the first part.

Anyway, all I can say is that we should be super excited that NYC is producing something that doesn't require a 3 day trip to taste... assuming we don't have to spend every day after work hunting for it

Would need more Pulse Wave, but agree Tesseract is right behind it if I recall accurately. In reference though to the blind test, I don't think I need it to say I prefer it over most TH beers. Outside of maybe Alter Ego or some of the Curiosities, I would rather have either Grimm in my fridge. Trillium still tops for me though, their stuff is crazy good.

Honestly though that is not the point. As other pointed out, the Grimm cans are f'in good, period. Deal with it. They are not just good for NY, they are in the upper echelon. If you seriously think they are just 'good for NY', then by all means, go buy the other shit and save the Grimm cans on the shelves for the rest of us.

Yeah Vintner's always has crazy prices that are not warranted for what they offer.

I agree that Tree House and especially Trillium are different IPAs compared to Tesseract, I absolutely love all of the Trillium IPAs I have had, and would certainly feel the quality of Tesseract is right up, shit is straight up juice (if you like that). the profiles are different between what Grimm and Trillium and Tree House brew but all make spectacular IPAs (where Tesseract is my fav of Grimm's)

I'm confused - so you haven't even had Tesseract? If not, I definitely recommend checking it out. Also - $10 for Tesseract, was that in a bar? I hope so for that price.

I can't say for sure how it compares to TH/Trillium, since I haven't had anything from them yet, but I drank Tesseract next to Abner the other night and preferred Tesseract. I'd rank it up there, if not above, with my favorites from HF, S&S #4 and Double Citra. Definitely one of the best DIPAs I've had.

I wouldn't even sell my last can for that price. It's absurd.

Having said that the best deal on the city might be Murrays Cheese Bar's happy hour. Great food and best of all I had 2 pulse wave cans for $5 each last night.

All beer cans are $5 for happy hour and they usually have the latest Grimm offering. Plus they had purple prose on tap and a rotating tap list of local offerings.

Maybe the keg they had at Beltway was off but Tesseract didn't even come close to any HF I've had. It was good, but not great. The cans of Pulsewave I had on the other hand was some of the best IPA I've had in a long long time.

Really really loved pulse wave and it's a shame that it will not be brewed again (most likely)

I would take my local favorite IPAs/DIPAs over Abner, all day, every day. I know I am in the minority but HF is completely overrated.

Can't say that I agree with the overrated part, but I am loving that this is a legit opinion right now.
