I recently went on a trip to Denver for family fun and beer drinking. After visiting Grist I knew I had to let other beer lovers know about this great brewery. I went with some family to get some growlers filled, while waiting we had a pour each. I went with the imperial Berliner wiesse, after ordering the head brewer asked me natural or with syrup. As I sat there a little stunned as I have never had it served the traditional German way with a shot of syrup. I chose the raspberry syrup over margarita, mango, and spicey mango. The syrup really makes a difference to me now for Berliner wiesse's. I did have a few other Berliners on my trip, Grist's was the best and also made the inner beer geek jump for joy inside for serving it the traditional way. Overall Grist is a must try for south Denver breweries. The only bad thing is now I need a shot of syrup with my Berliner wiesse. Any other breweries that serve BW the traditional way?
If you ever come back to Denver Grimm Brothers often does their BW the traditional way. Makes for quite a unique beer for sure.
I will be back up as I have family out there. Thanks I will check them out, heard good things about grimm.
I really like Grist too. Avery had their version of that style, Boulder Weisse, on tap some time ago (at least a year) and they had a couple local fruit syrups to choose from.
One thing I forgot to mention was that Grist did bottle some imperial Berliner wiesse don't know when they will be on sale. When I was there they had just hand labeled the bottles.
