    Thanks for posting this. Still, it's probably only a matter of time before the BJCP creates an "American Oak Smoked Wheat Ale" category that holds up U.S. versions as exemplars of the "style" anyway.

    That will happen once there are enough entered into competitions to warrant a subcategory. Hint - it will happen for Black IPA/Cascadian Dark Ale much sooner.

    There is more probability of it being a GABF/WBC category than a BJCP category.

    Very interesting cultural history. I had never really thought about the effect colonization in Europe would have on brewing history.

    Personally, I'd prefer if the BA/BJCP didn't bother with making style guidelines for beers like Grodziskie as they're only to get it horribly wrong.
