@64vdub and I were talking about doing a Skype (or whatever) group beer review where a bunch of BAers get together and simul-review a beer. Thoughts? I think this could be a lot of fun and would help put a face to many names on the site. Sessions would be recorded and put on YouTube also. Obviously we would all need the same beer so some planning would be necessary (especially for my Canadian ass to get beer) but it could be a lot of fun. First beer tentatively Almanac Dogpatch Sour but TBA.
Cool idea, like you said logistics but it shouldn't be to hard. Choosing the beer for review will probably be the most difficult thing to do. Almanac is only distributed in Cali except for some specialty bottle shops?...I'd probably try to pick a brew that has a broader distribution the first several reviews to help make the process a little smoother. After a few tastings participants will feel much more comfortable and the beer choosing can be discussed with little effort...maybe even listing a group of beers in a forum thread (that the group has chose) and letting the group "reviewing" decide by vote which one to review next? Other things to consider...a moderator, how many participants and when (day & time)...all very doable. Sounds like a good time. A little trial an error early on but I would think it would be enjoyed by most participants...cheers!
I have done a few and you can use google hangouts too. Very easy and reliable like all google products. =)
This happens a lot on Google+, Joe D. puts one on once a week and picks a certain style to review. I think there are a few more as well. It seems like Google+ is the best outlet for this. I'd be down and I have a youtube channel if we need a place to upload it.
We've definitely rocked some in-person collaboration reviews with some BAs. Have a bottle of Dogpatch Sour waiting in the ready...just let us know.
Put me down as one of those who thinks this is a cool idea. I would agree that picking the particular beer would probably be the biggest hurdle. Dogpatch Sour, for instance, is a beer I have never heard of nor seen.
I've done one in the past, it takes some logistics and also others can record their ownlittle for posterity too.
This was my thought exactly. Though as of the moment I don't have a web cam, but it's something I've been looking into since we are moving away from my in laws.
