    Hi guys,

I just planted two rhizomes in large pots. My question is, how often should I water them during the first few weeks? Once a day? 2-3 times a week? Whenever the soil looks dry?
I'm in SoCal and on the balcony they are there's only around 3-5 hours of direct sun every day right now.

    Thanks

How deep were the rhizomes planted?
How moist was the potting soil when they were planted?

PRO TIP: Hop bines will not produce many cones with 3-5 hours of sunlight.

    1. Around 2-3 in.
    2. Moist. I watered it 3 times (pub some soil, watered slightly, added more, watered slightly, added more and watered again)
    3. Re Pro time, yeah, I'm aware of it, sadly can't do anything about it (at least for the next ~2 years.

    Too fookin'wet.

Let it be fer a few days.
Don't water again until the top two inches are completely dry to the touch.

Agreed with Herb that is too wet. With that sunlight and being in a pot not allowing any room for root growth and development I wouldn't expect much of anything to come from this. Still what's there to lose?

Yup. Not much to loose. I will get more sun during summer so that may help, but we'll see how it goes.

Do the pots have holes in the bottom to keep water from accumulating? If so, watering once a day is NOT a bad idea for the first few weeks.

Actually...not only is it a bad idea to water once a day...it's a very bad idea to water once a day unless the goal is to rot the rhizome.

Water is warranted when the planting medium begins to dry out.
